I take refuge in the sacred Dharma. I take refuge in the Sangha, the supreme assembly of noble, irreversible beings. Please accept me as a Bodhisattva. I beseech the great Vajradhara Lamas, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and the great Bodhisattvas who reside on the great earth to heed me. Just as the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, of the past and the Bodhisattvas who reside on the great earth generated the supreme Bodhicitta for the benefit of all sentient beings, so too, I, who am called so-and-so, from this time forward, until I reach the essence of enlightenment, will generate the great Bodhicitta for the benefit of all sentient beings. I will liberate those sentient beings who have not been liberated. I will free those who have not been freed. I will give rest to those who have not found rest. I will lead to Nirvana those who have not attained Nirvana. Say this three times. The ultimate Bodhicitta is attained through the power of meditating on its characteristics, and does not depend on rituals, according to the wise. After reciting this three times, one becomes a Bodhisattva. Human existence becomes meaningful, becoming an object of offering to gods and humans alike. The door to falling into the lower realms due to karma is cut off. One goes from happiness to happiness, to the realms of the gods. Great benefit for others is accomplished. One becomes a child of all the Buddhas. Thinking of attaining enlightenment quickly, one praises and generates joy. "The Seventy-Three Instructions." Then, thinking about what to learn, there are two parts: aspiration and engagement. First, thinking about what to learn in aspiration, there are three aspects: equalizing self and others, exchanging, and cherishing others, which are the Bodhicitta meditations. The first is: For the benefit of all sentient beings, meditate on the Bodhicitta of equalizing self and others, thinking of cultivating the Bodhicitta. Thus, all sentient beings and I both desire happiness and do not desire suffering. If it is always happy and good, one will be happy, but sentient beings are ignorant of the causes of good and bad, acceptance and rejection, so they are always suffering, which is truly pitiful. Alas, may sentient beings who do not have happiness meet with happiness, afflicted by suffering.

May those who are bound be free from suffering, may those who are happy and joyful never be separated from that joy, may those with attachment and aversion abide in equanimity without attachment or aversion, may all enter the path of liberation and always practice virtuous Dharma, may I and all sentient beings quickly attain perfect enlightenment. After cultivating such a strong aspiration from the depths of the heart, relax for a moment into the emptiness in which all phenomena are unestablished, and dedicate with the purity of the three spheres. Seventy-Four Verses of Instructions complete. Then, the Bodhicitta of exchanging self and others: First, with a compassionate heart, visualize a being in front of you. Generously give away all your happiness and goodness, including your body, possessions, and roots of virtue, as if clothing them, so that they become happy and joyful. Take back all their sufferings and place them upon yourself, generating joy in suffering and accepting it, like exchanging clothes. When skilled, exhale and give your virtue to sentient beings, inhale and accept the suffering of sentient beings and purify it. In this way, alternately give and take between one sentient being and all sentient beings, striving diligently day and night, and practice with the completeness of the three: preliminary, main practice, and conclusion. Seventy-Five Verses of Instructions complete. Then, the Bodhicitta of cherishing others: Meditate like a mother loving her only child. After generating Bodhicitta, visualize a being who easily evokes compassion, such as your own mother, in front of you. Feel unbearable suffering for her pain, and resolve to take on her suffering and give her your virtue, thinking that she will be happy. Even if I remain in samsara, get sick, die, or suffer any misfortune, I can endure it, but how can I bear her wandering in samsara and suffering? Generate this incomparable loving-kindness. Similarly, meditate on all sentient beings, thinking that the responsibility for all sentient beings rests on me. Whether they benefit me or harm me, starting with the sentient beings I see and hear, extend your loving-kindness to all sentient beings pervading the sky with supreme Bodhicitta. After the session, dedicate from the state of non-objectification.
