In the moment before the arising of the second wisdom, at the end of the first ground, manifest afflictions that obstruct the arising of the second ground are eliminated by suppression. As the second wisdom is arising, the uninterrupted path eradicates the seeds of moral corruption, which are its own share. From the second moment onwards, the actual path of liberation of the ground acts as a supportive antidote. The distinguished path at the end of the ground acts as an antidote for prolongation. From the first moment of that ground until its completion, all the stains of each are eliminated in that way, and the complete elimination of those stains occurs simultaneously with the cessation of that ground. Some crude Perfection Vehicle practitioners nowadays assert that all that is to be abandoned by seeing is abandoned by the path of arising in the future tense, and all that is to be abandoned by meditation is abandoned by the path of cessation in the future tense. This is utter ignorance of the nature of antidotes, and they are seen as being the same as those who are to be subdued. In the Heap of Jewels Sutra, it says: When bodhisattvas generate this stainlessness, they completely abandon the stains of moral corruption. From the ten incompatible aspects of the ten grounds, the ten stains, when those grounds arise, having abandoned them on the uninterrupted path, the path of liberation acts as a supportive antidote, and they are abandoned by prolonging with the distinguished antidote. That is also the abandonment of all that is to be abandoned by seeing, and the abandonment of what is appropriate to be abandoned in each of the grounds by meditation. The qualities have already been explained in the chapter on the previous grounds. How are the nine stains of the nine grounds abandoned? There are six co-emergent stains: desire, anger, pride, ignorance, view of the aggregates as a self, and clinging to extremes. If they are divided by realms, there are six in the desire realm. In the meditative and formless realms, there are five each, excluding anger, making sixteen. If they are divided by grounds, there are six in the desire realm, and five each in the four meditative states and the four formless states, making twenty-six. If they are further divided by large, medium, and small, of the six in the desire realm, desire has nine grades of large, medium, and small. The other five each have nine grades, making fifty-four. In the four meditative grounds, having abandoned anger, the five afflictions each have nine grades of large, medium, and small, making forty-five, divided into five groups. Similarly, in the formless realm, there are also forty-five, divided into five groups, making a total of

In summary, there are four hundred and fourteen things to be abandoned through meditation. The way to abandon them is to begin reducing them through the path of application, actually abandon them through the path of immediate effect, use liberation as the support for the antidote, and especially extend the antidote through the path. In this way, both the manifest and the seeds are abandoned in the nine grounds. On these grounds, the Noble Eightfold Path is also fully practiced. As it says in the Letter to a Friend: "Right view and right livelihood, right effort and right mindfulness, right concentration, speech and action, and right thought, these are the eight limbs of the path, practice them for the sake of peace." These are also as stated in the Sutra on the Exposition of the Aspects of Enlightenment: "Manjushri, what is it that sees all dharmas as non-unequal and non-dual, this is right view. Manjushri, seeing all dharmas in the way of not seeing, constantly not seeing, variously not seeing, completely not seeing, this is right thought. Manjushri, seeing all dharmas as unspeakable, this is right speech. Manjushri, seeing all dharmas as without action and without doing, this is right action. Manjushri, seeing all dharmas as not accumulating and not diminishing, this is right livelihood. Manjushri, accomplishing all dharmas in the way of without effort and without accomplishment, this is right effort. Manjushri, seeing all dharmas as without attention and without memory, this is right mindfulness. Manjushri, because of non-objectification, naturally abiding equally and without disturbance, not seeing all dharmas, this is right concentration." These grounds, in terms of their own nature, are beyond objects and thoughts. As it says in the Avatamsaka Sutra: "The sons of the Buddhas, these grounds are extremely pure, like the traces of space." However, because the order of obscurations on the realms is cleared away, they are established as distinct in relation to seeing the ultimate transformation of the realm, enlightenment. When the various stains are completely purified, seeing the primordial realm or the self-manifestation of the luminous Buddha, also appearing like the moon due to the power of the Dharma. As it says in the Praise of the Dharmadhatu: "Like the newly born moon, seeing it grow moment by moment, so too are those who have entered the grounds."
