Thus, having confidently established the view of the nature of all phenomena as the great freedom from extremes. The eleventh chapter, the chapter on meditation, stainless contemplation, has four main topics: showing how to meditate after establishing the view; showing the order of the faculties by which to meditate; explaining the order of the path of how to meditate; and dedicating the merit of the occasion. The first main topic is showing how to meditate after establishing the view: Having explained the great view of freedom from extremes, the nature of the reality of all phenomena as unborn by nature, like the sky, now showing meditation, the self-arisen wisdom, clear light like the sun and moon, is the way just explained. Having seen the meaning of the equality of all phenomena in this way, it is precious to remain as it is in the state of reality. It is said that first one must settle the view and then meditate to remain equally in that state. If this is not the case, one will not be liberated from the collection of afflictions and the qualities of the grounds and paths will not be perfected, so one must definitely meditate. Also, in the state of reality, pure by nature, like the sky, one should remain in a way that cuts off the proliferation of doubt and hesitation. The Kunjed says: O Vajra hero, meditate now on the meaning! For the Dharma nature of enlightenment, which cannot be meditated upon, since there is no duality of meditation and what is to be meditated upon, to remain in the unmeditated nature is meditation. The meaning is that all meanings are unborn, and if one knows appearances and signs as they are, then all thoughts, memories, and movements of the mind will not be distracted from the state of unbornness. No matter how one thinks, if one knows that this is meditation, then without meditating, no matter how one remains, there is no distraction. And: O Vajra hero, meditate well now! In all appearances, sounds, and phenomena, there is only one meaning of realizing and becoming familiar with the essence. What is shown after manifesting the essence is to realize the meaning of unborn nature. To be undistracted and without hesitation is meditation. Also, one must engage in thinking after hearing and meditating on its meaning, because the meaning of the essence must arise in the mind. The Sutra on Definitely Showing the Truth says: Shariputra, if one hears for ten kalpas, it is better than if one meditates on this samadhi of Suchness for just the time it takes to snap one's fingers, for the latter accumulates much more merit. The second main topic is

When I explain the order of faculties for meditation, there are three: superior, middling, and inferior. The superior faculty has six aspects. Furthermore, it is taught that the most superior are liberated through realization: meditation. This is also taught through the order of faculties. The most superior faculty is liberated through realizing the nature of reality. Having seen the meaning of the non-duality of meditation and the object of meditation. Appearances and existence are fundamentally liberated, and the nature of mind is without effort or action. Unbiased awareness arises like a stream of water. Thus, those with the most superior faculties, who have accumulated merit in the past, are liberated merely by realizing the true meaning of mind, which is beyond the object of meditation and the meditator, like the sky, through the kindness of the holy guru. Without needing to meditate with effort, the nature of mind abides naturally at all times in the yoga of the continuous stream, as it is said in the Kunjed Gyalpo: Alas! Teacher, Kunjed, I have prophesied that, All the unborn, completely pure samadhi, Whether to meditate or not depends entirely on conditions. All the phenomena that appear as objects of meditation, Without any way of placing them anywhere, Are meditated upon by being liberated in their own place without searching. Alas! For these instructions on how not to meditate, Because they are meanings that transcend words and sounds, The Kunjed Gyalpo of the past did not prophesy them. The Kunjed Gyalpo of the future will not teach them. The Kunjed Gyalpo of the present has no prophecy. Alas! The teacher of teachers, the Kunjed Gyalpo, Prophesied the meaning of the unerring view, The essence of the meaning that transcends exaggeration and denigration, To meditate or not is like arguing in the sky. So it is. When merging into the expanse, it is taught to be free from the object of meditation and the meditator: When such a view merges into the expanse, the meaning of meditation is: There is no session, no distinction, everything is self-liberated, the realm of Samantabhadra. Without signs or limits, the self-born basis, the expanse of the dharmadhatu is vast. As it is, abiding in its natural state, there is no straying, no wrong path, no need for diligent practice. Without attainment or non-attainment, because of certainty. Without wishing for results, one is instantly a fully enlightened Buddha. Such yoga is the vastness of space. In short, having been liberated from clinging to truth, there is no need to meditate on antidotes, so there is no meditation. Constantly abiding in the state of non-clinging to truth, there is no session, the play is unfixed, beyond direction, enjoying the self-liberated realm of Samantabhadra. Kunjed
