It is called "te." There are two types of cessation: cessation through individual examination, which involves observing and analyzing with wisdom to individually eliminate, and non-individual examination cessation, which involves not observing but resting in the nature of reality. Among these, the cessation of a Bodhisattva involves compassionately embracing sentient beings. As stated in the "Entering the Middle Way": "Although it is always a meditative absorption belonging to cessation, compassion arises especially for beings without protectors." If it is asked whether elaborations are not prevented, it is not so, because compassion arises from non-conceptual wisdom, and therefore there are no elaborations. These are also as stated in the "Intermediate Mother": "One should enter into the nine meditative absorptions that abide sequentially," which is the meaning. Generally, the meditative absorption of ordinary beings and noble ones begins with equanimity of mind that attains great fruit. Then, one inclines towards the bliss of tranquility, thinking that all phenomena are like the sky, and in that state, the mind's activity ceases, and thus, with a formless mind, one is propelled up to the peak of existence. Noble ones, however, cultivate the unique union of the wisdom of higher vision, realizing that all phenomena are without self or what belongs to self. Having attained a great mind, they attain the higher wisdom of the path of seeing and the path of cultivation up to Akanistha, and thus attain Nirvana. Their minds possess the qualities of the formless aspects of meditative absorption, and therefore they enter into those samadhis. However, the minds of those realms are not self-characterized, because great vehicle noble ones do not cling to being born in higher realms. The method of combining the nine meditative absorptions is as described above. Thus, by practicing the nine sequential meditative absorptions in sequential and non-sequential orders, transcending and diligently training, one knows the karmas of oneself and others in previous and future lives, and whatever is the sphere of the mind. Although separated by death, birth, and obscurations, one can still see, and one can manifest transformations into one and many. One is without afflictions, and knows all that exists and how it exists. One sees realms filled with the sons of the Sugata. By meditating on the samadhi that abides sequentially, one transforms with the five not-so-clear eyes and unobstructed clairvoyance, and one attains the qualities of rising from ground to higher ground, seeing Buddhafields, hearing the Dharma, and perfecting the accumulations. There are three aspects to the method of meditating on abiding sequentially. Among them, the lion's leap is the four meditative absorptions and the formless absorptions.

The four formless absorptions are meditated on in ascending order, and then meditated on in descending order, just like climbing up and down a nine-rung ladder. The Intermediate Mother Sutra says: What is the samadhi of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the Lion's Swift Play? From dwelling in the attainment of the first dhyana, it is taught from the peak of existence to the first dhyana. Small transcendence is meditating on the nine successive stages of the formless absorptions and cessation in ascending order, and then jumping down to the first dhyana to meditate. Great transcendence has two types: The proper way is to place cessation in the middle, which is to meditate on the first dhyana. It is exemplified by doing the same from meditating on cessation to cessation, meaning meditating on every other dhyana. Placing non-attentive mind in the middle is to arise from cessation and enter into non-attentive mind, thus meditating gradually down to the first dhyana. Similarly, from entering the first dhyana to the third dhyana, and then to cessation, meditating by skipping one dhyana each time going up and down, or skipping two, three, four, five, six, seven, or eight dhyanas, alternating between ascending and descending. The Ornament of Clear Realization says: The nine meditative stabilizations with cessation, going back and forth in two ways, the consciousness belonging to the desire realm, holding the boundary of non-attentive, the meditative stabilization of transcendence, skipping one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight, going differently up to cessation. The five eyes and six superknowledges have already been mentioned before. The time of attaining the three samadhis is the time of attaining special samadhi. At that time, because of thoroughly realizing appearances as illusion, one attains the samadhi like illusion itself, and in order to eliminate the suffering and afflictions of the mind, one attains the samadhi like the stainless moon, and because all dharmas are without object and in a state of equality, one attains the samadhi like the sky, without obstruction, and so on, hundreds of thousands of countless samadhis will be accomplished. Just as one sun dispels darkness and illuminates, radiates light and has a thousand rays, and opens the lotus and becomes a friend of the lotus, appearances are like illusion.
