, and individually examine it. The mind, the cause of its initial arising is emptiness. The abiding in the middle and the cessation at the end are also emptiness. It has no color, no shape, and its essence cannot be identified. The past has ceased, and the future has not yet arisen. The present does not abide, and it is nowhere, neither inside nor outside. Know it to be like the sky, free from elaboration. Thus, this mind appears to exist, but it is actually deluded by conceptual thoughts. In reality, because it has no essence whatsoever, there is no cause for arising, so the cause of its initial arising is emptiness. Because there is no arising, there is no one to abide, so the essence of abiding is emptiness. Because there is no abiding, there is no cessation, so cessation is the emptiness of its own characteristic. It has no color. It has no shape. It cannot be pointed out. Searching and examining in the three times of past, present and future, one cannot find it. That state of not finding it, like the sky, is without identification or examination, clear, vast, and free from action. This is the view of the Dharmakaya's own nature. In the "Boundless Bliss," it says: "The nature of mind, without root, cannot be found by searching, and cannot be identified. The state of emptiness, as it is, primordially, is inexpressible, self-arisen wisdom." Releasing and resting: Time. At that time, without thinking anything in the mind, relax and release as if taking a break. Do not think anything, abandon mental activity. Rest everything in the state of non-duality and equality. Just as one rests when exhausted by a burden, abandoning the steps of examining with conceptual thoughts, one goes forth in a relaxed manner, as if reaching the end of fatigue or the place of rest. In its own nature, by relaxing and releasing, there is no thought or memory, but the radiance of awareness and bliss are uninterrupted, and all appearances rest in a state of openness, clarity, and emptiness. In the Doha, it says: "The mind bound by ropes, when released, is liberated without doubt. What binds the ignorant, the wise liberate themselves with." In general, if the mind is meditated upon and held single-pointedly, it will naturally scatter. If it is released to go wherever it pleases, it will remain in its own place, which is its nature, like a puppet. As it says there: "Those who are bound try to go in ten directions. Once released, they remain unmoving and stable. I understand this to be like an inverted puppet. Children, you too, stare at yourselves." Like the crow on a ship, the mind is also allowed to wander, and now it will not return inside even a little.

If it is done like that, it is like the mind scattering towards external objects, but returning inwards, it still abides in the understanding of emptiness, abiding in its own place as before. Therefore, it is said: The object itself is pure, not something to be shown. One should act only with emptiness. Just as a crow flying from a ship, circles around and returns to it again. When the mind scatters towards objects such as forms, since the objects are not truly existent, the mind does not rely on them even for a moment, but naturally returns and abides in emptiness where there is no searching. For example, just as a crow flying from a ship on the outer ocean does not rely on external objects, but returns to the ship itself. The way realization arises, the way of meditation: By that, one realizes that the self-grasping, the person is without self, and the mind that grasps is without inherent existence. In that way, by cutting off the thoughts of clinging to "I" and "mine," and becoming accustomed to the meaning of non-finding, since the grasping person is without self, the grasping is also without inherent existence. Since the object of grasping previously grasped has no essence, it is realized that the grasped is also without self. By realizing the emptiness of the two selves, the place of birth and the one who is born in samsara are not established, so liberation from the nature of samsara is to have gone to the understanding of nirvana. Also, samsara is not other than the mind, therefore, it is said in the Doha: The nature of samsara is the very essence of the mind. Know that the foolish speak by striking arrows. When one realizes in that way, even if one is not liberated in this life, one will surely be liberated in the next life. It is said in the Four Hundred Verses: If one knows that meaning with wisdom, even if one does not attain nirvana here, one will attain it effortlessly in the next life, just like the ripening of karma. For example, just as a great wave of virtue or non-virtue cannot be avoided, one will surely experience it in the next life, just like karma that will surely ripen. The way to gain stability is: to gain stability separately in shamatha and vipashyana. After that, the innate wisdom of union is: appearance and mind are non-dual, like water and the moon in water. Just as when the moon appears in a pond, there is no difference between the water and the image of the moon, appearance and the mind that grasps appearance are non-dual at that time. Appearance is the object to be grasped. It should be understood that it does not refer to the object of appearance. The object of appearance and its emptiness both abide in non-duality, like water and the moon in water.
