In the 《Nishchitavyākhyā》, Bodhisattva Dharma胜 (Chos 'Phags) reported: When I went to the world of the Thus-gone-one Great Name, called Arrogant, many non-Buddhists thought, measured, distinguished, and sought meaningless characteristics. Because they did not realize the true meaning, those of evil wisdom argued, scolded, slandered, and punished each other. When I saw this, I thought: Alas! The ultimate meaning of the Thus-gone-ones is completely beyond all distinctions. I wish I could declare it. The Buddha said: Dharma胜, now you have truly been liberated from all distinctions and attained enlightenment. After attaining enlightenment, you have separately revealed it and clarified it. The ultimate meaning is what the noble ones can realize individually with their own self-awareness, while what ordinary people can realize is the realm of distinction. Distinction is the realm of characteristics. The ultimate meaning is unspeakable. Distinction is the cause of the manifest increase of disputes. The ultimate meaning is the cause of the pacification of disputes. Reality cannot be measured, inferred, or weighed by distinction. Self-aware, self-illuminating, and without characteristics, the realm of activity is, unspeakable, because words are completely cut off, and free from disputes is the ultimate truth, which is beyond the realm of distinction. Also, as it says in the 《Exhortation to Higher Intention Sutra》: Maitreya, here, those who are arrogant and proud because of much learning, are separated from proper attention, and their mind-streams become rough, separated from calm abiding and insight, and far from the profound Dharma of the Buddha. Understanding only through words and letters will never achieve great benefit. As it says in the 《Ratnavali》: For example, a blind musician, others are happy because of it, but he himself cannot hear it, and not practicing the Dharma is the same. Rivers and oceans, boats and rafts are equipped, others are saved by them, but he himself dies there. Not practicing the Dharma is the same. For example, the sweetness of brown sugar, cannot be tasted by speaking, but can be tasted by tasting. Similarly, the taste of emptiness cannot be tasted by speaking.

I, through meditation, will experience its taste. So it is said. Therefore, merely seeking meaning through words, focusing solely on speculation, is also a cause for genuine wisdom. In the Doha it says: Whoever does not fully drink the nectar-like water of the guru's instructions, that cool water that alleviates suffering, that person will only die, tormented by thirst, in the desert of numerous scriptures. So it is said. Therefore, it is sufficient for the noble guru to merely symbolize the meaning of profound dharmata. From that: Whatever is thought of, that very essence that is free from roots, obtaining the guru's instructions is sufficient. So it is said. Therefore, one should enter into the meaning of the profound essence, and not hope to attain enlightenment merely through words, the teachings of philosophical tenets, or the chaff-like husk of speculation. Speculation is also of two kinds: the speculation of the boundary is that of ordinary individuals, because they cling to the untrue as true, in a reversed way, therefore it is said thus. The speculation of philosophical tenets is all the treatises that assert entities, because although they do not exist in nature, they impute distinctions. Showing that it is not understood by the divisions of philosophical tenets. Therefore, at this time, what is the use of many diverse philosophical tenets, and various thoughts and expressions? For the definitive meaning, there is no establishment or non-establishment, no end or middle, no distinction of vehicles. Like the sky, pure, without limitation, without partiality. There, if one examines existence and non-existence with the mind, it is a mistake. What is inexpressible, how can it be spoken? It is merely exhausting oneself in a meaningless place. The true meaning of the nature of mind is beyond speech, thought, and expression, therefore it is not understood by the philosophical tenets of thought and expression. Because there is no establishment or non-establishment, no end or middle, it cannot be labeled as a philosophical tenet. Like the nature of the sky, without limitation in any place, not biased towards any side. In the Kunje Gyalpo it says: All dharmas are the nature of the sky, the nature of the sky is suchness. So it is said. Such a meaning cannot be thought of with the mind, because thinking causes error, therefore there are no words or letters. From that: If one examines the meaning of words and letters, because the meaning of words and letters cannot be examined, the equality without thought is suchness. It also abides in the realm of the sky. This unthinkable meaning is primordially existent like the sky. So it is said. What is inexpressible cannot be spoken, therefore the nature of what is expressed by sound is reversed, that is itself.
