Exhausted. Outwardly, land, stones, mountains, and inwardly, afflictive attachments and so on, appear like falling hairs, but in reality, they have never existed. This is said to be the nature of deception, enticing children. As it is said in the Commentary: Because they follow the perversion of ignorance, worldly people conceive of the nature of things as having self-existence, even though they are without self-existence. Just as those with cataracts cling to the non-existent nature of falling hairs, etc., as having a nature due to the condition of cataracts, so too, children, with their eyes of wisdom dimmed by the cataracts of ignorance, cling to the nature of things as having self-existence, even though they are without self-existence. And as it is said in the Lankavatara Sutra: Just as those with cataracts perceive falling hairs as distorted, so too, this conception of things is wrongly discriminated by children. And so on. Moreover, because the noble ones see things as without self-existence, they are in accordance with the nature of reality, and they think of them as pure and solely without essence. From what was said earlier, when those who are free from the cataracts of ignorance and possess the eye of stainless wisdom observe, just as those free from cataracts do not see the falling hairs seen by those with cataracts, so the noble ones do not discriminate as children and ordinary people do, but clearly declare: These are not the nature of things. This has been clearly stated. Furthermore, the nature of deception is to entice children and to appear perverted, like a wheel of fire. Therefore, precisely because of the absence of self-existence, all conditioned things are false, because they are of the nature of deception, like a mirage. Whatever is true is not of the nature of deception, like nirvana. Therefore, from the reasoning and scriptures of these teachings, it is established that things are without self-existence. The fourth general meaning, in the seven teachings on purification, is the teaching on how to train in the Middle Way, free from extremes: So, what eliminates this cataract of ignorance? It is said: As an antidote to that, with the wisdom of awareness, the habitual tendencies of samsara are repeatedly hammered into emptiness, and the nature of emptiness

Having resolved to appear, understanding the meaning of the two truths, emptiness and appearance as non-dual, eliminating the abodes of the two extremes, training in the Middle Way, not abiding in samsara or nirvana, liberated in the state of space. This is the supreme essence of definitive meaning, the reality of the Great Perfection of self-nature. Thus, true wisdom is the wisdom of one's own awareness, and when one observes the nature of all phenomena with it, all actions, afflictions, and habitual tendencies are absent, yet they appear as the nature of illusion, etc., and one understands that they are liberated by emptiness. The Root Wisdom of the Middle Way says: Afflictions, actions, and bodies, the agent and the result, are like a city of gandharvas, like mirages and dreams. Also, the Sutra of Purifying All Actions says: That action is without essence by its very nature, and should be viewed as emptiness. It is also empty because it arises from conditions, as the Sutra Requested by Undefiled Intellect says: Whatever arises from conditions is unborn, it has no nature of arising. Whatever depends on conditions is said to be empty. Whoever knows emptiness is diligent. Emptiness is also appearance itself, and it should be understood as merely a part of being empty of truth. The Condensed Meaning of the Holy Perfection of Wisdom Sutra says: Form is emptiness, emptiness is form, emptiness is not different from form, and form is not different from emptiness. The Jewel Heap Sutra says: Whatever is the nature of form, that is like emptiness. Emptiness is also said to be form, its nature is unborn from the beginning. Also, desire and hatred are empty in nature, ignorance and pride are born from complete conceptualization. That conceptualization is also unarisen and not unarisen, and knowing this way, one becomes a guide. Also, the Sutra of the Unarisen of All Dharmas says: Desire is invisible, so are hatred and, ignorance, these are never visible here, all dharmas are like the sky, whoever knows this way becomes victorious. Gods and non-gods are the same way, equality and inequality are also equal. There is no Buddha, and there is no Dharma or Sangha, whoever knows this way is wise. Sentient beings
