Even just having the thought of benefiting others has immeasurable benefits. Here, in the Sutra of the Moon-like Girl, it says: Even just the thought of benefiting others has extremely immeasurable benefits. What need is there to mention those who actually benefit others? And in the Bodhicharyavatara, it says: Even just thinking of benefiting others is superior to offering to the Buddhas. What need is there to mention striving for the benefit of all beings? The reason for this is that killing a black man with a short spear diminishes the accumulation of merit by 40,000 eons. The Brahmin boy who liked stars practiced celibacy in the forest for 20,000 years. When he went to the city to beg for alms, he was seen by the merchant's daughter. Because she did not agree to offer him food at her house, he thought of dying. In order to save his life, he gave up his celibacy, and thus diminished the accumulation of merit by 20,000 eons, and so on, as stated in the Great Secret Skillful Means Sutra. Moreover, aspiration does not have the merit of continuous results, while entering into practice has the distinction of continuous merit, as stated in the Bodhicharyavatara: From the mind of aspiring to Bodhi, the results in samsara may be great, but it is not like the mind of entering into practice, where merit is continuous. Explanation of how to diminish accumulations by the power of intelligence Now, while explaining that each moment of accumulation diminishes many eons, in order to dispel the wrong conceptions of inferior people, the reason is: Therefore, all that is said about three countless eons, etc., whether quickly perfected or perfected over a long time, and liberation in one lifetime, depends on the power of intelligence. That is, accomplishing it with the three: skillful means, diligence, and supreme wisdom, is the unsurpassed power. Thus, Bodhisattvas with extremely dull faculties take thirty-three countless eons, that is, three each in the paths of accumulation and preparation, and three each in the ten bhumis. Those with middling faculties take seven, that is, two each in the paths of accumulation and preparation, one in the path of seeing, and two in the path of cultivation. Those with sharp faculties take three, as stated in the Jewel Lamp of the Middle Way by the teacher Bhāviveka: Those with sharp faculties realize perfect enlightenment in three countless eons, those with middling faculties in seven countless eons, and those with dull faculties in thirty-three countless eons.

The three sharp ones are: The Ornament of the Sutras says: "Three incalculable numbers are completed, and the practice is completed." Also, the Great Commentary on the Eight Thousand Verses says: "The first incalculable number is completed from the path of accumulation up to the first ground. The second is from the stainless ground to the seventh. The third is from the immovable ground to the Buddha ground." Also, the Bodhisattva Ground says: "One in the two accumulations, one from the first ground to the seventh, and one in the three pure grounds." That is also like counting the inhabitants of a field as part of the field. From the first ground onwards, the way of speaking of the incalculable in the accumulation and application is the same in meaning as that of the ground section. The incalculable numbers spoken of in this way are also established by the sharpness and dullness of the faculties. The three incalculable numbers of the sharp ones are also considered to be those who accumulate the two accumulations gradually and evenly. Moreover, if the power of the mind is great, it is said that one can condense many eons of accumulation in each moment, so there is no need to accumulate three incalculable numbers in any way. In the Secret Mantra, in terms of those with extremely sharp faculties, with great mental strength, those who condense countless accumulations in each moment are constantly trained, so it is reasonable to be liberated quickly in one lifetime and so on. That is also because after receiving empowerment, entering the practice of the two stages is entering the small path of accumulation. From then on, if one strives with diligence and great means, it is said that one can attain the path of seeing in that very life. After attaining the path of seeing, since there is no birth and death, one can complete the path of meditation in that very life and attain enlightenment. That is also because after attaining the path of seeing, if one wishes, one can attain enlightenment in seven days. The Twenty Thousand Verses says: "The great Bodhisattva who has attained the pure Dharma eye for all phenomena, if he wishes, can also manifest the complete enlightenment of unsurpassed enlightenment and become a Buddha in seven days." From then on, since it is the attainment of freedom, it is accomplished as desired, so it is exhausted as desired. It is also said that even those who enter the Great Vehicle as Hearers and Solitary Realizers manifest enlightenment with that noble body. Therefore, the tradition of Secret Mantra, liberation in one lifetime, is not worth counting even if it is many. In this way, mantra is profound and has many methods, so it quickly attains the path of seeing, up to the path of seeing.
