The understanding of mind-essence luminosity, which is the purity of Suchness-dhatu by its very nature, is naturally pure, immutable, and transcends the three states of arising, ceasing, and abiding, being of the nature of space, is the definitive meaning. All the Buddha's words and treatises that explain this are included in the category of definitive meaning. Phenomena that appear, such as arising, ceasing, coming, going, purity, impurity, aggregates, elements, sense bases, and so on, appearing in various forms like a dream, measured by the sequence of speech, thought, and expression, and taught with superimposition, are all called provisional meaning. All the Buddha's words and treatises that explain this are included in the relative truth. For example, to boast with speech and thought that "the nature of mind is like space" is relative truth, while the ultimate nature is the definitive meaning, which is the truth. As it is said in the Praise of the Inconceivable Madhyamaka: "The emptiness of all phenomena is taught as the definitive meaning." And: "Whatever teaches arising and ceasing, and beings and life, that is the provisional meaning, that is the relative." Also, in the Noble Samadhiraja Sutra: "As the Sugata has said, know the distinctions of the sutras of definitive meaning. Whatever teaches beings and individuals, know that all those teachings are of provisional meaning." Also, in the Noble Inexhaustible Intelligence Sutra: "What is a sutra of definitive meaning? What is a sutra of provisional meaning? Those sutras that are taught for the purpose of entering the path are called provisional meaning. Those sutras that are taught for the purpose of entering the fruit are called definitive meaning. Those sutras that teach self, sentient beings, life, individuals, persons, those born of power, possessors of power, agents, experiencers, and various sounds, or teach the ownerless as having an owner, are called provisional meaning. Those sutras that teach emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, non-conceptualization, unborn, unarisen, non-existent, selfless, without sentient beings, without life, without individuals, without an owner,

Those that directly show the door to liberation are called the definitive meaning. That is, rely on the sutras of definitive meaning, and do not rely on the sutras of provisional meaning, so it is said. In short, the reality of nature and the sutras that show it are called the definitive meaning and the sutras of definitive meaning. As a method of entering into nature, to guide the minds of sentient beings by many methods, all that shows impure dharmas, confusion, and their classifications, etc., are called provisional meaning and dharmas of provisional meaning. In this way, this is the first explanation of the mirror for viewing dharmas and the key to opening them. In order to clarify these and to understand the nature of the meaning of intention, the classification of intention and hidden meaning will be explained, of which there are two. First, intention can be explained with some exaggeration, but in a way that is not direct, along with purpose and necessity, these are what it is. As it says in the Ornament of the Sutras: Equality and different meaning, likewise also different time, in the intention of the person, know that there are four kinds of intention. So it says. The intention regarding equality is, considering the equality of the Dharmakaya, I said that at that time I became the Tathagata who sees all, like this. The intention regarding different meaning is, considering the three non-natures, it is said that all dharmas are without nature, like this. That is, the imputed is the characteristic of non-nature, because it is not definitely established in meaning. The dependent is the arising of non-nature, because arising from the four possibilities is not established. Arising from oneself is non-existent, because the arisen and arising are momentary contradictions. Arising from another is non-existent, because if the other's own characteristic is analyzed, it is not established. Arising from both, because it is contradictory, it is not established, and arising without a cause is impossible. Merely the arising, etc., as it appears, is dependent origination like a dream or illusion, so it is appearing without existence. As it says in the Sutra of the Ornament of Wisdom Appearance: Manjushri, a dream is appearance but not existence. Likewise, all dharmas are also appearance but not existence, from illusion, mirage, city of gandharvas, moon in water, image, to emanation, it is said. The perfectly established
