Now, I will explain the detailed classification of transgressions. That is, according to what was previously stated, the two aspects of Bodhicitta, not declining, are what should be practiced. Wrong views, etc., are the five transgressions of a king; villages, etc., are the five of a minister, and eight of commoners; two common ones, making twenty transgressions in total. One should understand the misdeeds that are in accordance with these. Not possessing these means there are no transgressions or faults. One should understand that which is in accordance with virtue as something to be practiced. Here, following the Sutra of Akashagarbha, the Compendium of Trainings states nineteen root transgressions. The five that a king must avoid are: stealing the property of the Three Jewels; punishing monks who possess morality with penalties; causing ordained individuals to abandon their vows; committing the five inexpiable sins; and holding wrong views. The five that a minister must avoid are: destroying villages, regions, cities, towns, and rural areas. The eight that commoners must avoid are: teaching emptiness to those who have not trained their minds; causing those who have entered the Great Vehicle to regress; abandoning individual liberation vows and engaging in the Great Vehicle; holding and causing others to hold the vehicle of Hearers and Solitary Realizers; praising oneself and disparaging others for the sake of gain and honor; claiming to tolerate profound teachings; enjoying and taking the property of the Three Jewels; and giving the wealth of tranquility to reciters. The common one is abandoning the aspiration for Bodhicitta, making nineteen in total. On top of that, according to the Ratnakuta Sutra, adding abandoning the intention to enter (the Mahayana), and not engaging in virtuous deeds, makes twenty. In the Sutra of the Essence of the Moon and the Sutra of the Essence of Space, it is also clearly stated that abandoning the mind of entry itself is a transgression. If these transgressions occur, one cannot be a Bodhisattva, so one must strive to remedy them. In the Twenty Verses, four root transgressions are stated: praising oneself and disparaging others for the sake of gain and honor; being miserly and not giving Dharma and wealth to those who are suffering and without protection; rejecting others' confessions and rebuking them with anger; and abandoning the Great Vehicle and teaching what appears to be similar Dharma. These four root transgressions are considered to be similar to defeats. Due to attachment to gain and honor, praising oneself and disparaging others; being miserly and not giving Dharma and wealth to those who are suffering and without protection; others

and do not listen to repentance, angrily attack others, abandon the Great Vehicle, and proclaim something that resembles the true Dharma. Thus it is said. Among them, those who follow the teacher Asanga and his retinue consider the root downfalls to be four, and the way of taking vows is also considered to arise from a mind of joy. Therefore, relying only on offerings and prostrations, there are few cases where the continuum matures, and one first asks if there are any obstacles, and then proclaims the precepts. If any of the four root downfalls occur, the method of remedy is also as stated in the "Twenty Verses on Discipline": "One should take the vows again, confess medium transgressions to three, and the rest in front of one." This is how they think, and the number of times one can take the vows is also said in the "Bodhisattva Grounds" to be no more than three. Those who follow the teacher Nagarjuna also believe that the way to take vows arises from a pure continuum. Therefore, after performing the seven-branch offering, one does not ask about obstacles in advance to a sangha like an ocean, nor does one proclaim the precepts afterwards. What is protected is also the nineteen or twenty root downfalls, and the method of remedy is to pray to Akashagarbha and confess. And they believe that one can take the vows as many times as one wants. Therefore, these two traditions are the sectarian differences between the Chittamatra and Madhyamaka schools. Now, I will explain what is in accordance with the side, that is, what is in accordance with those downfalls. For example, disrespect, which is in accordance with the side of wrong view, should be made known to everyone as a transgression. That is to say, abandoning wrong views, a virtuous mind, etc., is called non-downfall, and not being tainted by the side in accordance is known as innocent. All aspects of virtue are to be learned, and in particular, those related to the benefit of others are the real things to be learned. Eighth Chapter Explaining the Ways to Protect the Aspiration and Engagement Separately, Divided into Two: The Way to Protect the Aspiration and the Way to Protect the Engagement. The Way to Protect the Aspiration is also Divided into Two: The Brief Indication Is: Now, I will explain the ways to protect the aspiration and engagement separately. Among them, the way to protect the aspiration from the perspective of abandoning and adopting is the order of all the things to be learned. In short, the four black dharmas should be abandoned, and the four white dharmas should be diligently practiced. As it is shown. The detailed explanation is also divided into two, first is the exhortation to abandon the four black dharmas: According to the order, the first four are: Deceiving those who deserve offerings.
