Furthermore, I should not act; I must always maintain mindfulness, looking downward. To rest the eyes from looking, occasionally look to the sides. If some sights appear in view, say that it is good that they have come into view. In order to examine dangers such as roads, look repeatedly in all four directions. When resting, turn the face backward and look in the direction behind. After examining in front and behind, then go or return. In this way, in all circumstances, act after knowing what is necessary. Thus it is said. Then, in places such as under trees, engage in virtuous activities such as meditation and reading. If some wish to practice the Dharma strictly, examine their capacity. To those who speak knowing a little about pride and untamedness, say as it is said in the "Moon Lamp Sutra": "How could I presume in front of a great being like you? You are a person of great wisdom," and so forth. If they wish to listen no matter what, examine their capacity and then speak. If you speak of the great to those of small capacity, they will abandon the Dharma and go to bad rebirths. The Compendium says: "Having heard, those of small capacity will abandon this, and having abandoned it, those who have become without refuge will go to Avici." Thus it is said. Do not speak of the small to the great. The Conduct Entry says: "One who has become a vessel for the vast Dharma, do not apply to inferior Dharma." Thus it is said. Also, do not speak the Dharma alone to a woman without a companion, because it will become an enemy of celibacy and will become a place of slander. That same text says: "A woman without a man is not..." Thus it is said. The White Lotus says: "The wise should never, when teaching the Dharma to women, go there alone, and should not laugh or sit." Thus it is said. Furthermore, one should not speak to others who are disrespectful in their conduct. The Conduct Entry says: "Do not speak the Dharma to the disrespectful, nor to those who are ill, with their heads covered, holding umbrellas, staffs, or weapons, or with their heads wrapped." Thus it is said. Then, in a wide area, on a decorated lion throne and so forth, teach with a mind that is without self-interest for gain and honor, and with a mind that benefits others. The White Lotus says: "In a clean and pleasing place, spread out a wide seat, well laid out, with beautiful colors.

Turning to higher realms, the pure Dharma robes are well divided, and there is never any slight attachment to them. Food, drink, edibles, and provisions, clothes, bedding, Dharma robes, and even medicine for the sick are not considered. Nothing is taken from the retinue. Furthermore, may I, as a wise person, always and may these sentient beings achieve Buddhahood. Whatever Dharma is taught for the benefit of the world, I think of it as the equipment for my own happiness. In this way. Then, no matter what kind of person one meets, even when speaking, one should not be arrogant, contemptuous, or disrespectful. Always smile first, and then speak sweetly. As the "Moon Lamp Sutra" says: Smile gently like the full moon, and always speak frankly to elders and young people, thereby avoiding arrogance. Speak worldly pleasing words, and speak with reason at the appropriate time. Words that cause various distractions should never be spoken out of fear. Thus. Moreover, speaking sweetly and praising causes no loss to oneself, but brings joy to others. As the "Entering the Path of Enlightenment" says: To all who speak well, one should say, "You have spoken well." When you see someone doing good deeds, you should praise them and make them happy. You should praise their virtues behind their back, and you should also rejoice when virtues are praised. If you speak of your own virtues, you should know that they know virtue. All actions are for the sake of pleasing others, which is difficult to obtain even if bought with value. Therefore, one should practice the joyful conduct of others' virtues. I have no loss here, but there is great happiness for others. Evil causes displeasure and suffering, and there is also great suffering for others. When speaking, one should be sincere, relevant, clear in meaning, pleasing, free from attachment and aversion, gentle, and moderate. Thus. Then, for those who are superior to oneself, one should generate the perception of a teacher; for those who are equal to oneself, one should generate the perception of a friend; for those who are inferior to oneself, one should generate the perception of a retinue; for the elderly, one should generate the perception of parents; for the young, one should generate the perception of children; for those who are equal to oneself, one should generate the perception of siblings, and treat them with respect. In the "Ten Dharmas Sutra," it says: By abandoning evil deeds with body, speech, and mind, one should generate the perception of a teacher towards the Khenpo, and generate the perception of a Khenpo towards the Acharya.
