Therefore, the suffering of others will not ripen upon me, and my own happiness will not transfer to others. Thus, it is said that the results of actions do not transfer. As it is said in the Hundred Deeds Sutra: "One's own deeds do not transfer to others, and likewise, the deeds of others do not transfer to oneself. Because beings enjoy the share accumulated by themselves, they are obscured by the darkness of karma." Thus it is said. Since sin is not the root of virtue, it is not suitable as an object of dedication, because it is not the cause of anything other than the lower realms and suffering. This is necessary. Furthermore, although all phenomena are empty and without self, beings who have not realized this, who are like dreams, must be guided with compassion. If they are not guided, compassion will be despised, so it is necessary to accomplish benefit. Furthermore, because I have generated the mind to act for the benefit of beings, if I do not act, I will contradict my own training, so it is necessary to accomplish benefit. Furthermore, my wandering in samsara is also because beings have generated afflictions such as anger. Now, beings have become the supreme object for me to accomplish enlightenment, so it is necessary to accomplish benefit. As it is said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "By pleasing these many beings, one perfectly crosses over to the other shore." Thus it is said. Furthermore, because by actually accomplishing the benefit of others, one's own benefit will be accomplished naturally, it is necessary to accomplish benefit. As it is said in that same text: "Perfectly accomplishing one's own benefit is also the same." Thus it is said. Furthermore, if one accomplishes the benefit of beings, one will please the Buddhas, so it is necessary to accomplish benefit. As it is said in that same text: "There is no other way to please the Victorious Ones, except by pleasing beings." Thus it is said. Furthermore, even if one has generated the mind of enlightenment, if one does not accomplish benefit for beings, one will fall into the path of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, so it is necessary to accomplish the benefit of beings. Furthermore, in the ultimate truth, self and others are indistinguishable, like space, but in the conventional truth, there is no difficulty in accomplishing the benefit of beings who are like illusions, so it is necessary to accomplish benefit for beings. In short, even if there is only one being who has not been liberated from samsara, I will remain in samsara to accomplish benefit until then. Even if I know that by exerting effort day and night without weariness for hundreds of millions of eons, I can only cause a single moment of virtuous thought to arise in the mindstream of one being, I must exert effort with great mental strength. As it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras:

Relying on the supreme son of the royal family, diligence, ripens the assembly of sentient beings. Even for the sake of a single virtuous mind of others, one would not become weary even in hundreds of thousands of eons. It is in this way that one should act. There are also four ways to increase the army. As it says in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "Faith, reliance, joy, and abandonment." Therefore, the first army of faith is to cultivate virtue and abandon non-virtue through faith in the benefits of the mind of enlightenment. As it says in that very text: "Through faith, fear of suffering and the thought of its benefits are generated." The second army of reliance is to think that if I do not generate the mind, it is one thing, but if I generate it and then abandon it, it will become bad through any means, and thus one should not lose patience. As it says in that very text: "Having begun with the Vajra Banner ritual, one should cultivate pride. First, having examined one's resources, one should either begin or not begin. Having begun, one should not turn back." The third army of abandonment is to rely on the permission to sometimes disregard some of the minor precepts that have been taught, which do not harm sentient beings. As it says in that very text: "In connection with fear and celebrations, etc., if one is unable, one should do as one pleases." The fourth army of joy is to engage with joy and enthusiasm in the benefit of sentient beings and the practice of the precepts. In the Letter to a Student, it says: "Even if one cuts off heads for the sake of others, may you open and behold with eyes that rejoice like lotuses. For one's own sake, even if one is covered by a single white umbrella, may you regard the ground as sharp as a whetstone for swords." Virtue should be earnestly embraced, or it is the cause of higher realms and liberation, and therefore it should always be done. As it says in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "Vast, fragrant, cool, abiding in the heart of a lotus, nourished by the sweet speech of the Victorious Ones, increasing splendor, with a supreme body born from a lotus, radiant with the light of the Sage, in front of the Victorious Ones, one is transformed into a son of the Sugatas by virtue." And, "Wherever those who go will go, there and there, by that merit, one will become a real offering with the qualities of the fruit." To make beings one's own is because all sentient beings have been one's parents and relatives, and there is no one who has not been so. Therefore, one should act for their sake, and it is a field for accomplishing enlightenment.
