Repudiating all (bad) actions, some outwardly praise and pretend to be respectful, but inwardly they do not believe and show disrespect, and secretly deceive others with deceit and hypocrisy. These are all immeasurable faults arising from slandering the guru. In the "Fifty Verses on the Guru," it says: "The terrifying places such as Avici hell, the places of reliance in hell, are curses upon the teacher; it is taught that one dwells in such places." So it is said. There are also twelve types of disciples to be accepted. "The characteristics of a good disciple" are, incidentally, also explained as a special vessel: A fortunate disciple has great faith and wisdom, diligence, caution, mindfulness, and awareness. They do not transgress the teachings, keep vows and commitments, have tamed body, speech, and mind, and have great compassion and altruism. They are broad-minded, patient, generous, and have pure perception. Those who are stable and have great devotion. The benefits of pleasing the guru in this way are also immeasurable. In the "Sutra of the Adornment of Manjushri's Wisdom," it says: "If a son or daughter of good family, who has supreme faith, serves a virtuous friend, the accumulation of merit is immeasurable and incalculable, more than making offerings to all the Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges for kalpas." In the "Tantra of Supreme Wisdom," it says: "Better than offering to Buddhas for kalpas, if one drop of sesame oil is applied to a single hair of the guru, the accumulation of merit is especially excellent." The reason for this is that (the guru) is a special object of veneration. In the "Gathering of Intentions," it says: "Better than the Buddhas of a thousand kalpas, one should know the guru as a relative. Why? Because all the Buddhas of the kalpas arise relying on the guru. Before the guru appeared, there was not even the name of Buddha." So it is said. "Thinking of the qualities and confessing and restraining" is: Such a good disciple should always remember the qualities of the guru, not think of faults, and even if they see them, think of the qualities, thinking that it is their own bad appearance, and the guru definitely does not have it, thinking like this from the depths of their heart, and relying on confession and restraint. In this way, do not think of the guru's faults, but only remember the qualities. If there is a little disbelief, it must be a bad appearance like a dream. Thinking that the guru definitely does not have it. Even if one does not believe in the guru's behavior in a dream, one must confess immediately upon waking up. Like the "Wheel of Maturation"

From [the text] "Olpa": If, in a dream, you see the faults of the lama, upon awakening, immediately confess them. If you do not confess, this will increase the cause of uninterrupted suffering. Thus it is said. If it happens during the day, confess within a moment, a short time, or before the day and night have passed. Furthermore, when you think of one fault, think of a hundred times the qualities, and the same applies to speech. Abandoning what is displeasing and requesting what to do: At all times, abandon whatever displeases the lama, and strive to find ways to please the lama. Never break the lama's commands, and treat the lama's attendants as you would the lama. Do not take the lama's servants as disciples, and request permission before giving teachings, empowerments, and so on. Abandon what displeases the lama and accomplish what pleases the lama. You must act as instructed. As it was said before: Even if there are faults, if you act as instructed, what need is there to mention practice for attaining the true meaning? Treat the attendants as you would the lama. Do not take the retinue as disciples, and request permission before giving teachings, empowerments, consecrations, and fire offerings, and so on. Thus it is said. In other texts, it also says: Treat the lama's attendants as you would the lama. And so on, as it appears. Restraining bodily misconduct in the presence [of the lama]: Regarding conduct, in the presence of the lama, restrain body, speech, and mind. Do not stretch out your legs, sit cross-legged, or turn your back. Do not frown, be sullen, or show anger. As it is said, in the "Three Stages": In the presence of the lama, bodily actions such as sitting cross-legged or turning your back are not allowed. Do not frown or be sullen. In short, be mindful with your body. Thus it is said. Completely restraining all faults of speech: Furthermore, regarding speech, avoid frivolous talk and so on. Do not speak carelessly, tell lies, or engage in divisive speech. Do not speak of others' faults, unpleasant or harsh words. Do not speak without considering or about irrelevant matters. That is, do not joke or laugh loudly, do not engage in meaningless chatter, do not repeat idle gossip, do not tell lies or engage in divisive speech, do not scold others, and so on. Even if it is the truth, the speaker will accumulate great negativity. Why? Because the lama's mind will feel ashamed and displeased. Even if the lama's mind is displeased for a moment, it will generate great faults. As it says in the same text: Connected with careless words,
