Having examined the mind that strives meaninglessly for delusions, at that time, the brave one should firmly hold the mind with an antidote. With great certainty and great faith, with reliance, respect, and reverence, with a sense of shame and fear, strive to be peaceful and please others. Do not be weary of the desires of children who disagree with each other. When afflictions arise, think that these minds arise with love. On things that are without fault, having power over oneself and sentient beings, without deceit and without arrogance, the mind should always be held. Having attained the supreme leisure after a long time, think again and again, and hold such a mind like Mount Meru, utterly unmoving. Thus it is. Furthermore, one should not be distracted even for a moment from what is not Dharma, towards the things of this life. Furthermore, associating with the lama, the instructions of the khenpo, fearing the suffering of the lower realms and samsara, and diligently applying oneself with reverence to the Dharma that one practices, mindfulness, awareness, and caution, and many virtues will arise naturally. As it says in that very text: Associating with the lama, and the khenpo instructing, for the fortunate one who acts with reverence out of fear, mindfulness will easily arise. Thus, when doing good deeds and honoring the lama, do not be partial, seeking profit and fame, being deceitful, hypocritical, or biased, but do so equally to everyone at all times, because there is no difference in perfecting one's accumulations and purifying obscurations. Honoring with the three kinds of pleasing Furthermore, if one has wealth, offer it to the lama. Please him with service, respect, and attendance with body and speech, and by abandoning this life for practice. The best is practice, the middle is body and speech, and the lowest is material service, one of which must be done. Reversing the attacks of others by skillful means If others speak unpleasant words to the lama, one should stop them. If one has no power, then think of his qualities again. Cover your ears and accomplish benefit with compassion. Do not rely on him and do not speak casually. If someone proclaims evil, then stop it with skillful means. If one has no power, then think of the lama's qualities and block one's ears with one's fingers. Do not be intimate or casual with that person. As it says in the Tantra of the Source of Ambrosia: When reviling the Vajra Master, be peaceful or wrathful.

May actions and deeds cause it to cease. If one does not have the ability, one should cover one's ears with mindfulness. One should not associate with them, nor should one speak to them. If one becomes intimate with them, one will be tormented in the lower realms. Thus it is said. The benefits of acting in this way are explained as follows: Explanation of benefits: It accomplishes benefits in all lifetimes. One meets noble ones and hears the excellent Dharma. Ground and path, dharani and samadhi, are completely filled with various qualities and riches. It is a feast of peace and happiness bestowed upon beings. As it is said in the Ornament of the Tree Sutra: 'Son of good family, by relying on and serving a virtuous spiritual friend in this way, one will always remember one's past lives. One will benefit and bring happiness to sentient beings. One will meet virtuous spiritual friends. One will accomplish the ground, the path, and excellent samadhi.' Thus it is said. The fourth general meaning, among the six types of individuals to be abandoned along with their companions, is the instruction to abandon evil spiritual friends: Now, the second part is the instruction to abandon evil spiritual friends along with their companions. Having relied well on the noble ones in this way, one should also completely abandon evil spiritual friends. They do not possess the qualities mentioned earlier, and have many faults of wrong views, broken vows and commitments. They have little love, compassion, wisdom, and learning. They are lazy, negligent, ignorant, and have great pride. They are stingy, malicious, cruel, and have coarse afflictions and five poisons. They seek the interests of this life and cast the next life far away. Although they teach as if it were Dharma, they are actually counterfeiters of non-Dharma. Like a lama who is like an impure corpse, even if there are many bees to be tamed, one should abandon them from afar. Because they lead faithful ones onto the wrong path and into the lower realms, those who desire liberation should never rely on them. Thus it is instructed. Thus, their vows and commitments are deteriorated, and they have little compassion and learning. They are lazy and have great pride. They are stingy and the five poisons are coarse. They seek the retinue, possessions, and fame of this life. Even though they dwell in solitude, a rain of busyness and afflictions falls. They cast the next life far away. They slander all Dharma and individuals other than themselves. In their speech, they appear to be skilled and knowledgeable in the Dharma, but in reality, it does not benefit their own minds. Because they confuse words and meanings, they are called counterfeiters. Like a heap of impure corpses, even though many retinues like bees gather, faithful ones seek
