Frightful and terrifying, in this boundless ocean of samsara, if one does not cross over when one has obtained the precious boat, how shall I fare when constantly agitated in the waves of afflictions and suffering? Just as the great ocean is a treasure of water, and I, the meaningful one, must cross the great ocean when I have a great boat, so too, one must cross this great ocean of samsara, which has no beginning or end, is difficult to endure, and is frightening, by relying on the support of having obtained the boat of human existence, because there is no room for endurance when constantly wandering in the waves of birth, old age, sickness, and death, etc. Shantideva also said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "Relying on the boat of human existence, one can be liberated from the great river of suffering. This boat is difficult to find later, so do not sleep foolishly!" So it is said. Fifth, the reason for the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment: The reason for the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment, therefore, quickly allocate the share of diligence, in order to completely pacify the disturbances of mind and mental factors, ascend the path of stainless, clear light wisdom, may there be no obstacles on the path to enlightenment! Thus it is advised. When the disturbances arising from mind and mental factors are pacified, the wisdom of the mind's own clear light manifests from within, and becoming accustomed to this is called the path to enlightenment. By diligently practicing, one can abide day and night without interruption, abandoning sleep and laziness. As it is said in the Five Stages: When all the elaborations of mind and mental factors, approach pacification, the wisdom of clear light, appears without thought and without limit. So it is said. Here, the mind refers to the fabricated discriminations and recollections that exist on the basis of the three realms, therefore, one must completely pacify the disturbances that obscure it in order to enter into non-discriminating wisdom. In the Two Truths it says: Mind and mental factors are of the three realms, fabricated with various discriminations. So it is said. That is also when one first sees an object, thinking 'what is this?' and seeing it universally, this discrimination is the mind, just as one recognizes a lotus in the first moment with consciousness. Then, focusing on the differences of that object is the contemplation arising from the mind.

It is like the conceptualization of the blue color, round shape, filaments, and pollen of a lotus flower. In this regard, the Madhyāntavibhāga states, "In that, the appearing of meaning is the consciousness; its distinctiveness arises from the mind." And the Abhidharmakośa states, "Discernment and analysis, as well as coarseness and subtlety." It is like that. Thus, all that is imputed as the mind and mental factors, along with their habitual tendencies, ceases in the state of Buddhahood. As stated in the Madhyamakāvatāra, "When the dry firewood of knowable things is completely burned, the peace is the Dharmakāya of the Victorious Ones. At that time, there is neither birth nor cessation. The cessation of mind is the direct realization of that body." So it is. That is because when the self-aware wisdom is caused by the delusion of grasping at subject and object, and is covered by the net of afflictions, it is called mind. This is because conceptualization is included in the impure ground. When it is liberated from that, it is called Buddha, because even though it knows objects, it is free from the grasping of subject and object that clings to conceptualization. As stated in the Vajra Praise of Mind, "When covered by the net of afflictions, it is to be called mind. When that itself is free from all afflictions, it is to be called Buddha." So it is. The Abhisamayālaṃkāra states, "All sentient beings are supreme, that is mind." The explanation that there is a great mind in the state of Buddhahood is the great wisdom. As stated in the Guṇavyūha Sūtra, "The minds of beings are all conceptual. The mind of the Buddha is great wisdom. Like the four sides of a golden mountain, this shows the aspect of impurity and purity." So it is. In mantra, the great mind and the great afflictions refer to wisdom itself, just as it is shown. To this, those who are blinded by the darkness of ignorance, who believe that the mind does not cease, are foolish. Thus, even at the time of meditative equipoise, although objects appear to the sense consciousnesses, the consciousness of conceptualization ceases. As stated in the Vinaya Sutra, "When a monk is in meditative equipoise, although the activity of his mind ceases, it is not that objects do not appear to the sense consciousnesses, just as for a guardian of a field, when the pond is still, reflections appear." And the Pramāṇaviniścaya states, "When the inner nature is without movement, and the forms of the eye are present, the consciousness that sees them is born from the sense." So it is. The appearance of objects to the senses is non-conceptual.
