, because they are preoccupied with their own evil deeds. To summarize these points: By abandoning the eight states of unfreedom, one will always find leisure. So it is said. In the Great Commentary on the Eight Thousand Verses: Hell beings, hungry ghosts, animals, long-lived gods, barbarians, those without a Buddha, wrong views, and mutes—these are the eight states of unfreedom. So it is said. In the Letter to a Friend: Holding wrong views, being an animal, being a hungry ghost, being born in hell, having no teachings of the Victorious One, being in a border region, being born as a barbarian, being foolish and mute, being a long-lived god—wherever one is born, these are called the eight faults of unfreedom. Having separated from these and found leisure, one should strive to reverse birth. So it is said. Abundance is mentioned in the Essence of the Moon Sutra: A person who has ten qualities is abundant. What are they? Abandoning low birth, not being foolish, having undamaged senses, being born male, having a good appearance, not being poor, not being despised, having pleasant speech, and being looked upon by many people. Although it is said like that, here in the Sutra on the Twelve Excellences of Leisure and Endowment: Obtaining a human body, being born in a noble land, having complete faculties, not having committed irreversible actions, and having faith in the place—these five are self-endowments. A Buddha has appeared, the Dharma has been taught, the sacred Dharma remains, others also practice it, and others are kind to those who practice Dharma—these five are other-endowments. Other kindness means that a virtuous spiritual friend holds one with compassion and guides one to the Dharma with love. The twelve are counted separately by dividing the two bases of division. These are mentioned in the Tantra Commentary: Human body, born in the center, complete faculties, non-action, faith in the place—the five self-endowments. The teacher has appeared, the Dharma has been taught, the teachings remain, followers practice, altruistic love—the five other-endowments. So it is said. Among these, leisure is the essence, and endowment is its distinguishing quality, like a lotus and its blueness, and so on. In the Intermediate Mother Sutra: It is difficult to even be reborn as a human, what need is there to mention leisure and endowment? So it is said. "Second, even if leisure and endowment are obtained, there is no certainty," Thus, even if leisure and endowment are obtained, the happiness of existence

Due to attachment to a few things, if one does not accomplish benefit in this life, one will not even hear the sound of a good rebirth in the future, and one will repeatedly wander in the lower realms for a long time, not knowing what to accept or reject, walking on the wrong path." "Wandering in beginningless and endless samsara, if I do not accomplish a supreme Dharma that benefits this well-obtained birth, then due to the power of karma, I will be born in the lower realms and will not even hear the sound of a good rebirth, let alone obtain a good rebirth. As it is said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: 'If my conduct is like this, I will not even obtain a human body, what need is there to say that I will not go to a good rebirth? If I do not obtain a human body, I will only create sins and have no virtues. When will I have the opportunity to practice virtue? But I have not practiced virtue. At that time, I will only suffer the suffering of the lower realms. What will I do?' Thus, if one goes to the lower realms, one will not be liberated from that state for a long time. As it is said: 'Even after hundreds of millions of kalpas, one will not hear the sound of a good rebirth.' Third, advice to be diligent in Dharma practice: Furthermore, since the opportunity to be liberated from the endless cycle of samsara is very rare, one should diligently practice the Dharma from the heart. Therefore, now that you have freedom, "in this, with the auspicious circumstances that are in accordance with the good path, rely on the two accumulations of inexhaustible virtue and Dharma, and be sure to transcend the city of samsara." "That is to say, when one is not controlled by old age, decay, and death, and one has the freedom to do as one pleases, seize the path of liberation, and if one practices whatever virtue one can accomplish, one will surely be liberated from samsara. As it is said in the Extensive Play Sutra: 'Monks, when there is no death, old age, and decay, and one is empowered by living in happiness, at that time, with a joyful mind of liberation, diligently accumulate the two accumulations of merit and wisdom, and your three realms of samsara will become empty, the doors of the lower realms and evil paths will be closed, the ladders of the good realms and heavens will be erected, and the state of liberation will be obtained.' Fourth, the reason why one must strive now: Thus, in this time of leisure and endowment, when one knows the benefits and happiness and can accomplish them, and when one is guided by a virtuous friend,
