They also include these. Due to shared karmic obscurations, poverty, fear, and terror afflict them. In dire straits, they are helpless and threatened by suffering. These are also situations of being in the realm. Those with external obscurations cannot obtain what they desire because the external is displeasing. They eat vomit with weak bodies, and even when they see food and drink, they feel the need to guard it, or they are scorched as soon as they approach it, and so on, suffering. Those with internal obscurations, on top of that, have fire burning in their stomachs and smoke billowing out. Those with shared obscurations, on top of these, also have the common suffering of poverty, destitution, hunger, thirst, ugliness, disability, constant fear of being harmed by others, and being without refuge or protection. As it is said, in the Śikṣāsamuccaya: "Intolerable thirst, seeing a clear river from afar, wanting to drink and going there, that very river turns into water mixed with hair, fish scales, pus, mud, blood, and feces. The seasons change, the wind rises, the water level rises, the foot of the mountain becomes cold, and sandalwood trees grow lush and green. If you climb up, there is a forest fire, the flames are fierce and spreading, and many burnt logs collapse, making crackling sounds. The waves of the water reservoir, rising high in fear, the foam that arises from them gathers together, and if you go there, it turns into a red desert filled with gravel and rough corners, where red storms blow fiercely. If you want rain clouds to rise there, the rain that falls from the clouds is like iron arrows, accompanied by smoke and burning ashes, and lightning that shines like hot diamond rocks with golden light falls on the body like rain." So it is said. Second, those who roam in the sky. The subtle ones are: the hungry ghosts and demons who roam in the sky, as well as yakshas, rakshasas, fierce spirits, and kings, etc., roam everywhere without hindrance by the power of their karma, manifestly creating various kinds of harm, spreading diseases, stealing radiance, and interrupting life. The length of their lives, measured in human months, is only one day, and their own age is five hundred years, equivalent to fifteen thousand human years. They suffer in the realm of Yama. These also have immeasurable suffering because they are classified as hungry ghosts, because the place is displeasing.

Coming and, harm and, fear and, hunger and thirst and, wherever one goes near, in those places also, the key to the previous death omen, the disease of severance, infects others, and oneself is also eternally tormented by it, thus taking away the patient's life and, lifespan and radiance, manifestly causing harm only to others, immediately generating discomfort and, even if going by means of magical power, it appears to be guarding in dangerous roads, like the body door of one's own characteristics, like a stick, like charcoal, like dogs and birds, there are various kinds of forms. Some, although they have small roots of virtue from the past to enjoy, are tormented by many other sufferings, and most of them are seasons turned upside down, others are happy, but it is also suffering for them, and so on, endlessly. In that itself it says: "When heat oppresses, even blizzards become hot, when cold torments, even fire becomes cold. Extremely unbearable, the karmas are fully matured and the mind is confused." "To this, all kinds of things appear upside down. A mouth the size of a needle's eye, yet swallowing many leagues of fear, a large belly tormented, drinking the water of the great ocean," "also, it will not become a wide throat, the breath of the mouth can also dry up the water droplets." Also, as it says in the Letter to a Friend: "Even ghosts, due to the lack of desire, the suffering that arises is continuous and unbearable. Hunger, thirst, cold, heat, fatigue and fear that arise are extremely unbearable, one should rely on them. Some mouths are only the size of a needle's eye, but the belly is as big as a mountain, oppressed by hunger. Even a little bit of discarded uncleanliness, they do not have the ability to seek. Some are skin and bones, naked, like dried palm trees. Some genitals are burning, and the mouth is also burning, the food is burning charcoal and falling sand. Some people's pus and feces, and even blood and other unclean things cannot be found, they compete with each other face to face, from the throat, swollen mature pus comes out to seek." "For ghosts, in the summer, the moon is also hot, and in winter the sun is also cold. Trees become without fruit, those ghosts, just by looking at them, rivers will also dry up. Suffering is endured without interruption." "Some bodies, bound firmly by the ropes of evil deeds, five thousand
