. The illusion of appearance cannot obscure me. If the illusion of appearance obscures me, then the two lamps will become false. This shows the meaning of the secret mantra. Thus it is said. This is an important and powerful key to the secret meaning of the sphere, so one should not be afraid to speak directly and frankly. The third general meaning, clearing obstacles by establishing confidence in liberation, has three points: generally explaining the meaning of self-liberation, specifically explaining the reality of original liberation, and elaborating on the meaning of self-liberation. The first point is: In this path that definitely liberates from afflictions, the Victorious Ati Vajra Essence, since afflictions are not abandoned but are pure in their place, it is not like abandoning as in the case of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, not like abandoning as in the case of Bodhisattvas, not like abandoning as in the generation stage of lower mantras, not like letting it self-pacify as in the completion stage, not like taming with antidotes as in the general common vehicle, not like settling in its own way as in the Mind Section, not like making it the nature of reality as in the Space Section. Why is that? If one does not know that afflictions have always existed as they are, then abandoning cannot abandon. If afflictions are abandoned by the mind, then the abandoned and the abandoner are the same entity, so it cannot be purified. If one abandons with wisdom, then the mind has not seen wisdom, and wisdom has not seen the mind, so for contradictory things that cannot coexist, the names of abandoned and abandoner cannot be used. The former and the latter cannot abandon, because the past and the future are contradictory entities. When one exists, the other ceases. If they exist simultaneously, then they will interfere with each other, so the abandoned will become the antidote, and the antidote will become the abandoned, because the mind stream is the same and the time is the same. Moreover, afflictions arise from the mind itself, like the body and the shadow, so there is no time to abandon by abandoning. Similarly, it also applies to practice and so on. As it says in the Sun and Moon Union Sutra: If one does not realize suchness, yoga is like the body and the shadow. From that, that nature arises spontaneously, so abandoning is not abandoning. Similarly, it is not through practice either. Transformation will not change either. If one does not realize the unchanging essence, like a crystal rock or a jade stone. It is not possible to practice and melt. The place that is naturally pure. One who is endowed with yoga can observe. Similarly, it is not peace either. If one does not know manifest superior seeing, like Mount Meru.

Like a king, no one can destroy it. It is not liberated through antidotes. If you do not understand self-purification without searching, like wanting to clarify muddy water, clarifying it externally will not work. Even if it is clarified, it is not its nature. If you do not understand self-appearing spontaneously, like the appearance of ordinary fools, attachment will not cease. Therefore, one should understand the key point of self-liberation like water ripples. There are also two levels of wisdom in this. Self-liberation with effort is: identifying whatever afflictions arise, abiding in their own place, letting them naturally dissolve, and in the state of natural dissolution, in the intention of the pure realm, that is, self-liberation great equality, practicing without distraction for even a moment. Effortless is: whatever arises cannot stay, because self-dissolution is the nature of reality. Therefore, there is no need to abandon the method of observing it, but naturally and involuntarily liberate. These two levels of wisdom are like the difference between before and after. As it says in itself: These are two levels of wisdom, those with effort and those without effort. Those with effort abide in their own place, and for the extent of familiarizing with appearances, when the appearance of pure wisdom is realized, everything inside and outside will not be born from external causes. No matter how much they arise, abiding in their own place, they naturally liberate. Therefore, this is the appearance of a yogi. Those without effort are like this: one liberates oneself, and one is originally self-liberated. Just like using iron to cut iron, and using stone to break stone, one's own greatest antidote is oneself. Through realizing the self-nature great perfection, no matter how one familiarizes oneself, one can find the meaning of not searching and self-attaining, and great bliss can increase without practice, and one can directly realize naturally. Whoever encounters this, even if they are a person with heinous sins, can be liberated by familiarizing themselves with this, without any doubt. So it is said. Second, regarding the detailed explanation of the abiding mode of original liberation, there are three points: because one is originally liberated, one is now naturally liberated, without the need for effortful antidotes; teaching not to deviate from the self-nature of that abiding mode; repeatedly emphasizing that one has never gone elsewhere other than the rootless state of self-dissolution. First, as it says in the "String of Pearls": It is not liberated through effort, but originally abides in liberation. It also says: Because ignorance itself is self-born, it is mis-
