When the sentient beings within are exhausted, the continuation of birth ceases. Now, awareness itself is free from death. Thereafter, appearances do not establish any nature whatsoever, and it is difficult to express them as this or that. Therefore, it is called the exhaustion of dharmata, which is the fruit of meaning. The fruit is difficult for individuals to express as this or that because it is inconceivable. Moreover, the exhaustion of dharma occurs when, at the time of reaching the limit, the external objects and internal body, which are substantial dharmas, are exhausted. Here, it refers to the exhaustion of all the dharmas of the alaya-consciousness, which are gathered by the mind. The aspect of the alaya, abiding in the dharmata of the three doors, is the fundamental ignorance that is exhausted and purified. In relation to the deluded dharmas, the clear light of appearance, which is without arising or ceasing, abides in the ultimate truth of dharmata. Because these two dharmatas come to exhaustion, it is called the exhaustion of dharmata. Appearance refers to the spontaneous appearances that were previously present, dissolving inward and gradually disappearing. The appearance of primordial purity, like a cloudless sky, naturally purifies and remains for a moment, so it is called appearance. It is not like the appearance of objects and characteristics. At this time, there is no object of focus even on dharma, so it is the exhaustion of dharmata. It is the time when the objects of phenomena, and the grasping aspect of emptiness of dharmata, gathered by the subject, the minds and mental factors of the three realms, together with the alaya-consciousness, revert. The manner of exhaustion is twofold: gradual and sudden. Gradual exhaustion is the time when the four appearances reach their limit. Sudden exhaustion is when, having first directly seen dharmata and then familiarized with it, exhaustion occurs without the arising of appearances such as the increase of experience. This is called the supreme sudden one. This is only a slight possibility of exhaustion for those who have karmic connections from previous training and whose respect for the guru is greater than others. Secondly, the extensive explanation of self-nature is in five parts: essence, definition, self-nature, dharmata, and demarcation. The essence of the exhaustion of dharmata is: the appearance of the outer five lights together with the body is exhausted, the inner substantial things together with conceptual thoughts are exhausted, the objects of experiential appearances are exhausted, and awareness abides in the state of primordial purity like the sky. As it is said in the *Thal 'Gyur*: "The appearance of the exhaustion of dharmata is when the appearance of experience is emptied, the body is exhausted, and the objects of the senses are also exhausted. Conceptual thoughts are liberated from delusion, and are separated from the words of expression." So it is said. The definition is:

Dharma refers to the collection of body, speech, and mind, along with the afflictions associated with it. Self is the purifying path, along with the aspect of meditating on the clear light of appearance. Exhaustion is emptiness. The contemplation of the mind, along with the appearance of objects, naturally reverts and disappears, and is called non-objectification. As it is said therein: Thus, the nature of Dharma is a definite word. Dharma, knowing where gathering and assembly are, Action, agent, and holding characteristics, Making self-appearance emptiness, Holding each of their kinds. Self is where there is no fabrication, Abiding freely, pervading reality. Original, primordial, ordinary, The number of sounds, words, and names is exhausted. Thus it is said. Nature is: The exhaustion of outer and inner appearances and mind, like the radiance of the blue sky, only utilizing the self-radiance of primordial purity. In the Completion of Skill it says: The characteristic of exhaustion at this time is, Non-action, like the sky. Thus it is said. Dharma-nature has two aspects: The Dharma-nature of appearance is: The exhaustion of outer and inner grossness, thus the channels and winds are exhausted. With that exhausted, the subtle stains of habits dependent on the mind, and the characteristics of all arising, and even the seed parts are exhausted. Abiding in continuous samadhi, not transgressing the wheel of Dharma-nature. Gaining mastery over the eye and great clairvoyance, thus obtaining power as the regent of the Dharma King in the three realms. Except for the subtle alaya (ཀུན་གཞི་,ālaya,阿赖耶识) of the knowable obscuration, cut off like a white curtain, there are no other obscurations. It is called the fruit of the exhaustion of the Dharma of the path. Having cleared that away, the Buddha, free from all obscurations, enters the Dharmakaya of inner space, primordial purity, complete pacification. In Thorough Transformation it says: The Dharma-nature of self-arisen purification is, The elements purify, thus grossness ceases. Dust and minute particles ultimately cease, Not even a single part remains. Afflictions purify, thus confusion and, Non-conceptual clinging do not remain. Habits and all arising, Not even a single dust particle remains. Thus, through the purification of subtle and gross, The five aggregates also gradually become subtle. After the body of the four elements is exhausted, All is the complete wisdom body. Non-conceptual samadhi naturally abides, Because it transcends the collection of fabrications, Therefore the word Dharma does not remain. Thus it is said. The Dharma-nature of emptiness is: The gross channels and winds are exhausted, thus mind and mental factors are exhausted. The appearance of body and wisdom, like the full moon at its peak, also disappears into the inner space, thus
