Dza. Thus it is said. Especially regarding the example of the impermanence of human life. In the Tantra of the Great Secret Union of Sun and Moon, it says: "All sentient beings with bodies, life is impermanent like a dream. Dreams cannot establish reality. Life is impermanent like a raging river. The flowing water does not stay in one place. Life is like the intangible wind. The wind cannot hold a person. Life is short like an illusion. Illusions do not last forever. Life is unreal like magic. Magic cannot occupy a real place. Life is like a transient guest. Guests do not stay forever. Life is like uncertain rain clouds. Clouds cannot grasp time. Thus, the measure of life at birth, like this, is uncertain. Suddenly and abruptly, time cannot be grasped like this." Thus it is said. In the Sutra of Extensive Play, it says: "Life is impermanent like playful clouds, swiftly passing like a river flowing down a steep mountain." Thus it is said. In the Collection of Special Utterances, it says: "Some die while still in the womb, likewise some die immediately after birth. Some die just as they begin to crawl, likewise some die while running. Some are old, some are young, some die in their prime. Therefore, saying this person is young, what confidence or pride is there in being alive?" Thus it is said. Thus, contemplating impermanence, knowing that death is certain and swift, what is the use of the actions of this life, attachment, hatred, fighting, laziness, hoarding, greed for big and small differences, sectarian bias, subduing and protecting enemies and friends, empty talk that does not adhere to the meaning even when heard, and all spiritual friends? It should be considered deeply from the heart. In sayings, it is said: "Life is short, the aspects of knowledge are many. The length of life is also unknown. Like a swan taking milk from water, one should accept one's own desires." As it is said. From today onwards, one must strive in the profound Dharma. Furthermore, looking at the appearances of the external world, because the four seasons change, it is not constant. Because day and night change in an instant, it is not momentarily constant. Thinking about the sequence of birth and death, the nature is not constant. Thinking about the guests in a shop, thinking about those who gather and will eventually separate, thinking about dying quickly, dying certainly, not knowing when one will die, thinking that what is not Dharma is useless. Internally, the age of one's own illusory body, the thoughts of the mind, the sequence of happiness and suffering changing from before to after.

Having contemplated, contemplate on impermanence, instability, change, and transformation, as well as the various examples of no return after death. Without any distraction for even a moment, think only of death. As it says in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "Day and night, at all times, I should only think of this." That is to say, until the mind is turned away from this life, even if putting aside meditation and other virtuous practices, one must contemplate this from the depths of one's heart. For there is no Dharma more profound than this for turning the mind away from Samsara. The great teacher Padmasambhava also said: "Impermanence, without distraction, urge on with death, day and night, in divided sessions, constantly meditate." Just as it is said. Therefore, even if contemplating the formation and destruction of the world from a long-term perspective, life is impermanent; even if contemplating a moment from a short-term perspective, life is impermanent. The senses and objects are impermanent, because circumstances change. Retinue and wealth are impermanent, because they exist now, but now they do not. Parents and relatives are impermanent, because they are gone after death. Fellow villagers and neighbors are impermanent, because there are many separations. Weather and old age are impermanent, because appearances change. Happiness and suffering, enemies and friends are impermanent, like a guesthouse. In short, all sentient beings rest their heads on birth and death, wear the clothes of happiness and suffering, spread the mat of grasping and being grasped, make the bed of ignorance, sleep the sleep of self-grasping, and dream the dreams of habitual tendencies. In the house of the three realms of Samsara, all beings using the nature of the five poisons, whether lying down or standing up, this sleep and dream have no beginning or end, and no time to awaken. Contemplating these, now one must strive to liberate oneself from the dark room of Samsara. Those in Samsara, controlled by karma and afflictions, even when impermanence manifests, grasp it as true. Even when sinking into the river of birth and death, they do not know how to liberate themselves. Even when experiencing various sufferings, there is no time for fear. Without true spiritual friends, without guides and protectors, with the eyes of Dharma closed, they wander in the darkness of ignorance. Contemplating these, for the difficult-to-obtain leisure, one should generate a joyful mind, and it is appropriate to practice the Dharma. Having met true guides, the most supreme leaders, having met qualified Lamas, at this time of obtaining the nectar of profound Dharma, one should diligently practice, and strive to cross to the supreme other shore of the ocean of the three realms. Life is impermanent like the shadow of the setting mountain, a tree on a cliff in the wind...
