Appears in the manner of... The father's aspect is the body of skillful means. The mother's aspect is the body of wisdom. They appear as two, skillful means and wisdom. Moreover, skillful means is without cessation, and wisdom is without change. Thus it is said. Fourth, there are two divisions: The division into five families: From "That Very Liberation": Moreover, the families appear as five, namely, the Tathagata family, the Vajra family, the Ratna family, the Padma family, and the Karma family. Thus, it is asserted as the five families. Thus it is said. The division into five bodies: Again, from the same source: The meaning of the term "body" is fivefold. That is, the manner of explanation is as follows: Vairochana and Vajrasattva, as well as Ratnasambhava and Amitabha, and Amoghasiddhi. Thus it is said. Fifth, there are also two ways to connect the meanings. First, connecting the meanings of the five wisdoms: From "Self-Arisen Wisdom": In terms of the meaning of awareness, the Tathagata is explained as the Tathagata family. In terms of the meaning of reason, it is explained as the Vajra family because there is no birth or death. In terms of the meaning of awareness, it is explained as the Ratna family because various things arise. In terms of the meaning of awareness, it is explained as the Padma family because it is immaculate and pure. In terms of the nature of awareness, it is explained as the Karma family because activities are accomplished. Thus it is said. Second, connecting the meanings of the bodies: Again, from the same source: Because the appearance of awareness is without cessation, it is Vairochana. Because awareness realizes the benefit of both self and others, it is Vajrasattva. Because it knows with awareness all at once, it is Ratnasambhava. Because it sees its own appearance, it is Amitabha. Because awareness realizes the unborn, it is Amoghasiddhi. Thus it is said. The second meaning, the detailed classification of radiance and light, is twofold: generally showing the way of abiding and specifically explaining the way of appearing. First, the five main lights of the chief, from the beginning, abide as spontaneously accomplished great ones. The way sentient beings have them now is: inside something like a jewel-encrusted heart, in the center of the clear light channels, the wisdom of awareness dwells in the radiance of the five lights. Moreover, from "Self-Arisen Wisdom": That appearance of great wisdom abides in the center of the citta. Thus it is said. Second, there are three ways to specifically explain the way of appearing: the way of appearing when the path has not been practiced, the way of appearing when it has been practiced, and the way of appearing in the bardo. First, although the light is present within oneself, for the six types of beings who do not recognize it, the self-light of the lamp is now present in a subtle way. From "That Very Liberation": Unrecognized,

For all sentient beings, humans are visible, gods are watchable, asuras are subtle, animals are merely in their own state, pretas are thin, and the realm of hell is as small as a sesame seed. Likewise, the six lights also exist there. It is said. That light is merely the radiance that exists within the heart. By nature, the light of habitual tendencies of maturation, such as distant calls, is also present in the gods, but that is the light of virtuous contaminated maturation, not the self-light of the essence. Secondly, in the practice of the path, the place of light in appearance, path, realm, body, eye, essence, metaphor, time, liberation place, and nine aspects. Place: In the heart, the naturally accomplished five lights of bindus, in the center of the five colors, residing in the mandala of the five Buddha-families, father and mother, residing in the purity of the five elements, five aggregates, five bodies, five families, five wisdoms, and five grounds, seen from the four appearances when the limit is reached. The path arises from distant calls. The realm is empty space. The body of light is the upward appearance of the five bodies and four wisdoms. The eye is the lamp of self-born wisdom, recognizing oneself and moving into the dharmadhatu. The essence is the all-illuminating, unobstructed wisdom. The metaphor is like crystal, the five lights are not clear in the base itself, but there is a basis for appearance. In the lamp of circumstantial practice and the bardo period, the fundamental appearance of the five lights appears to fill the sky. Time is when practiced, it can also appear in this life, and the bardo is the time of self-appearance. The place of liberation is the initial primordial purity, the secret abode of jewels, where the outer light occupies the fortress within, like the crystal light being gathered inward, without clear appearance, but existing as the basis for appearance. Thus it is said, in the self-arisen, thus it is said, in the self-arisen, light and body and wisdom, as well as the mother and the five elements and the five aggregates, as well as the earth and the families are proclaimed. Thus it is said. It is the same for all sentient beings. It exists in their respective bodies. Thus it is said. The way this appearance appears is, the appearance of great wisdom, the place exists in the center of the heart, the path arises from the ocean, the realm is empty space, the body is body and wisdom, the eye is the lamp of wisdom, the essence is the all-illuminating mirror, the metaphor is the stainless crystal body, the time is the dharmata bardo.
