That which grasps the appearing object is called the appearing mind, the grasped mind. It is identified as the mind of the object. If one wonders whether the appearing mind exists, it is not true that it grasps the clarity of no object, and it does not exist because the identification of color is not established, and it does not exist because it is examined in the three stages of arising, abiding, and ceasing. Therefore, it is called the nature of mind being introduced as emptiness, it is introduced as self-dissolving, without support, and primordially pure. Therefore, ordinary Dharma and ordinary Dzogchen practitioners do not distinguish between appearance and the object of appearance. To consider the self-nature of external appearance as mind is to fall into the contaminated true appearance of the Mind-Only school. Here, when appearance is introduced as mind, the mind grasps appearance and non-appearance. Therefore, the mind that first encounters the object is called the appearing mind, and later, when its distinctions are examined as mental factors, it is considered the grasping mind. Therefore, it is called what is to be abandoned, what is to be purified, mistaken appearance, mistaken grasping, and samsara. In the Two Truths, it is said: 'The mind and mental factors of the three realms are conceptualizations with imputed aspects.' And in the Treasury, it is said: 'Conceptualization and analysis are coarse and subtle.' Therefore, all that is said to be abandoned is in complete agreement, so this important key point should be realized by those with supreme intelligence and wisdom. Also, to meet the external and internal as without basis, one needs such a view. Second, to establish the secret expanse by the key point of the inner mind: When the essence of the mind is examined and found to be unidentifiable, it does not become like a solid object. Although it is unidentifiable in the shimmering, and cannot be expressed, the self-luminous emptiness, the state of self-radiance, appears in the primordially pure and stainless expanse, so it is introduced as the Dharmadhatu within the exhaustion of phenomena. Therefore, realization that is without extremes and stainless arises from within, and by becoming accustomed to that state, the appearance of the clear light expanse is also naturally seen. In the words of introduction, it is said: 'From the emptiness that was originally non-existent, arises the self-dissolving light and rays. From the emptiness that is free from doing and being done, one finds the light that symbolizes the three bodies.' Third, to establish the unsurpassed awareness by the key point of the secret expanse: The emptiness that is purified in the mind expanse is not an empty nothingness. In the shimmering, it is sparkling. The self-clear, self-luminous, self-aware wisdom Dharmakaya is introduced as stainless. Therefore, in terms of awareness, it has not fallen into annihilation, it is

Because there is no entity, it did not become evidence. Because it cannot be expressed anywhere, it is settled in the vast expanse of space, free from the extremes of both existence and non-existence. The self-radiance of awareness, like a string of pearls, along with bindus, appears spontaneously. Therefore, from that itself, it is said: "The awareness abiding in the ground, Meets the realm of reality where the nature of phenomena gathers. The awareness grasping at characteristics, Meets the realm of complete purity. The awareness like a string of pearls, Meets the realm of self-existing light." Thus, by recognizing the appearance of objects as baseless, the cycle of appearance, the environment, and beings is averted. By recognizing appearance as mind, the object-consciousness that arises and dissolves naturally is freed. By recognizing mind itself as emptiness, the root of the delusion of grasping and being grasped is severed. By recognizing emptiness as the realm of awareness, practice is condensed into the oneness of the three bodies. In order to attain Buddhahood in one lifetime, the recognition of how delusion is reversed from the mind is taught as extremely precious. Through the recognition of examples, the meaning that the wisdom of awareness exists within oneself is shown to be believed through signs by the lamp of bodhicitta. Therefore, from that itself, it is said: "That which measures all Buddhas, Is to rely on the wisdom of examples. That which measures the wisdom of signs, Is to rely on the lamp of empty bindus. That which measures the wisdom of meaning, Is to rely on the clear appearance of direct perception." In short, if the external appearance of objects is recognized as baseless, and the mind that grasps it is recognized as empty, then one knows that the delusion of samsara is utterly non-existent. Not only that, but the meaning of the root awareness is directly recognized, and the realm of awareness is recognized as inseparable, thereby reaching the Dharmakaya of primordial purity. This is the instruction for those of supreme intelligence. The second meaning is the recognition of self-appearing wisdom, which is divided into two: the distinction of the faculties of those to be trained, and the order of the recognition of the instructions. First, the three faculties of superior, middling, and inferior are each divided into seven, making twenty-one. These differ in wisdom, practice, and liberation. First, "superior" refers to the aspect of wisdom and realization. If divided, there are seven: the lowest of the superior, the middling of the superior, the highest of the superior, the excellent of the superior, the supreme of the superior, the peak of the superior, and the perfection of the superior. These faculties also easily realize self-appearance.
