When sound is heard, only the consciousness that grasps sound arises, just as the consciousness that grasps forms and so on does not arise. Because whichever object is engaged with, the consciousness of that object arises, and other consciousnesses do not arise, therefore so many kinds of consciousness are desired. The second view is that the external appearances that appear in various ways also arise from consciousness, and the consciousness that grasps them also arises from the mind. Like an egg cracking, appearances and consciousness, object and subject, appear in one mind. Now, when grasping an object, one external appearance consciousness and one internal grasping consciousness also appear. Although they appear as two due to beginningless habits, there is no establishment other than self-awareness, like an egg cracking. If so, when one external appearance consciousness arises, and at that time one grasping consciousness arises, wouldn't they simultaneously become two conceptual thoughts? They would not become two conceptual thoughts, because the appearance consciousness is non-conceptual. The third view is that although external appearances appear in various ways, they are known by one internal grasping consciousness. Like a monkey quickly entering the inside of a castle, its neck becomes blurred from looking around in four directions, one consciousness enters the five doors and knows the object. At the time of knowing, both appearance and consciousness are of the nature of one mind, without difference, just as the appearance of a dream and the grasping that appears as oneself are not different from the consciousness of one sleep. Second, appearances are false: the habits of external appearances appearing as delusion in consciousness are false, but not true in consciousness. The consciousness that measures it is also measured through falsehood, and there is no measurement through true experience. Both object and consciousness are considered to be merely the nature of false appearances. If we differentiate this, there are those who consider it to be false with defilements, and those who consider it to be pure without defilements. The first is that the various appearances that appear now, and the consciousness that measures them, are merely the appearance of the mind's defilements. In ultimate truth, there is only a part that possesses the qualities of the realm of non-dual wisdom, and nothing is established as appearance consciousness. The Buddha's unconditioned Dharmakaya is non-dual wisdom, it is the stainless Suchness. In the state of conditioned existence, because there is a slight latent defilement, it will delude appear

It is said that there are visible appearances and backaches, etc. Now, it is believed that by removing the false part of the afflictions from the impurities where afflictions and wisdom coexist in the mind, pure wisdom without remainder will be manifested. The pure ones believe that even mere appearances and consciousnesses do not exist, because those who are attached are accustomed to focusing their minds when they are young, just as the appearance of their faces appears clearly without having to think about anything. Therefore, the appearance of objects appearing in various colors (such as white and red), and the measuring mind, both do not exist, but the appearance is like a reflection, and only the self-aware wisdom of each individual who experiences its meaning is truly existent. Secondly, there are two types of Madhyamikas: Svatantrika and Prasangika. The first one believes that not only are there various appearances and immeasurable clear appearances, but also that the self-aware wisdom of each individual is inherently devoid of essence in the ultimate truth. This can be divided into two: those who believe that illusion is the ultimate truth and those who do not abide at all. The first is that objects and subjects do not exist, and the non-existent awareness-wisdom is inexpressible and inconceivable, existing only as an illusion in the ultimate truth. Therefore, through the merits of meditation, one attains the paths and grounds, and ultimately attains the illusory wisdom of the Buddha, and benefits beings in an illusory way from within the Dharmakaya. As it says in the Intermediate Mother Sutra: All phenomena are like dreams and illusions, and Nirvana is also like dreams and illusions. If there is a dharma greater than Nirvana, it is also like a dream and an illusion. All phenomena refer to all kinds of objects and consciousnesses. Nirvana refers to benefiting beings after attaining the Rupakaya. The dharma that is greater than that refers to the suchness of each individual's self-awareness and the sacred Dharmakaya. There are also those who believe that illusion is truly established, those who believe that illusion is like appearance, and those who believe that it is merely illusion, and so on. There are many kinds, and they are called the lower Svatantrika. The second is that even illusion does not exist in the ultimate truth, because there are no objects or appearances, so the self-awareness that experiences its non-existence does not exist either, just as a barren woman has no son.
