They are the realm of things and the realm of emptiness. The realm of things is like this: form, sound, smell, taste, dharma, what appears to be touched, and what appears as the four great elements, and what appears as various entering causes. The realm of emptiness is: all of emptiness, and being separated from all grasping consciousness. There are two that are not realms: those that transcend limits and those that transcend views. What is called transcending limits is not grasping all things as self. What is called transcending views is called inexpressible. Thus, these distinctions are not established from the very appearance of reality, like illusions and dreams, but are empty and non-existent in their essence, merely illusory appearances of clarity. The very nature of mind, the essence of self-arisen wisdom, arises from ignorance, and its essence is born as an obscuration. When these illusions are cleared, it is called the manifestation of stainless clear light. Now, these natures generated by karma and afflictions rely and abide on the very face of karma and afflictions. Moreover, they rely on improper conceptualizations, on the collection of six or seven consciousnesses, including the alaya consciousness, and that abides on the perfectly pure true nature of the self-arisen wisdom mind. That does not abide in anything, so it is called self-arisen wisdom. As it says in the Uttaratantra: Earth abides greatly in water and wind, wind abides greatly in space, space does not abide in wind and water, nor does it abide in the realm of earth. Likewise, the aggregates, elements, and faculties depend on karma and afflictions. Karma and afflictions are improper and always abide in attention. Improper attention greatly abides in the purity of mind. The nature of mind, all phenomena, does not abide in anything. From that, there are three kinds: very white, very black, and mixed, or there are three kinds of karma: meritorious, non-meritorious, and unwavering. Meritorious karma is: in this case, the ten virtues, etc., which generate the fruits of happiness in samsara, are in accordance with merit. Non-meritorious karma is: the ten non-virtues and the five heinous crimes, etc. Unwavering karma is: the karma that generates in the higher realms, because it produces results without wavering elsewhere.

Defilements are six. In the "Sun and Moon Union Sutra," it says: There are six defilements. Ignorance refers to clinging to the aspect of fundamental erroneous conceptualization. Stupidity arises from error in the aspect of wisdom. Hatred arises from error in the aspect of the generation stage. Pride arises from error in the aspect of views. Desire arises from error in the aspect of appearances. Jealousy arises from error in actions of non-understanding. These and so on, defilements refer to the mind that follows thoughts, the intellect that follows memories, and the conceptualization that is the basis of connecting habitual patterns and all doubts, as well as clinging to aspects of objects and things, etc., which are immeasurable. If classified, there are eighty-four thousand according to the order of collections of conceptualizations, with twenty-one thousand one hundred of desire, hatred, stupidity, and equal parts of these. All of these arise from clinging to what does not exist as self, like mistaking a mirage for water, similar to mistaking a rope for a snake. The non-existence of the container world and sentient beings and all defilements appears in the clear light, as stated in the "Garland of Pearls": Thus, the various phenomena that appear, like seeing a snake on a rope, by grasping what is not that as that, the inner and outer form the two, the container and its contents. If analyzed, the rope itself, the container and its contents are empty from the beginning, being the image of ultimate truth and conventional truth. Seeing the appearance of the snake is true, seeing the rope is also true. For example, like birds dwelling on a height, the nature of the two truths is only conventional in the world, having no connection with reality. From the realm of emptiness, all its essence is liberated. Thus it is said. And, as said before: The aggregates are like illusion and emanation. Thus it is said. Therefore, since these realms of the container and its contents, the aggregates, etc., are called the Dharma of samsara, having known their nature, liberation from suffering is attained, entering into the awakened true nature, which is the ultimate truth. Here, in the "Sun and Moon Union Sutra," it says: All of these are the sole cause of samsara. In the "Supreme Treasure Trove of the Vehicle," it says: Differentiating the Dharma of samsara in detail is the third level. Thus, having understood the categories of the Dharma of illusory appearances, measuring these, establishing the tenets of philosophical schools, the Vehicle.
