Between the lungs, from the veins as thin as grass stems, the sound of wisdom dwells riding on the horse of wind. The wind is like a blind horse with legs, and the sound of wisdom is like a lame man with eyes. If these two do not mix together, there will be no arising of manifold discriminations. Because the sound of wisdom abides in its own nature, there will be no discrimination towards external objects, and thus a clear and lucid awareness will arise. This is the key point of wind, the fundamental reason for distinguishing wind and wisdom. When these two are mixed together, various discriminations arise. The moving part is wind, and the perceiving part is the sound of wisdom. Moreover, the real wisdom in the heart is like water, and from there, the energy sound goes into the veins, and the mind mixed with wind is like a water bubble. That mind is the vein path sound of wisdom. Moreover, the mind follows the presence or absence of wisdom, but wisdom does not follow the presence or absence of mind. Therefore, in terms of essence, wisdom is not dominated by the mind, but in terms of energy, the mind is dominated by wisdom. If wisdom does not move, the mind cannot have discriminations, just as waves cannot arise if water does not move. In the Self-Arisen it says: The analogy of mind and wisdom is like water and a bubble, wisdom is not dominated by the mind. The path moves from the life-vein, therefore the horse of mind is the cause of the movement of the life-wind. The doors are the two, mouth and nose, because the wind is the door from which it comes out. The essence is the grasping and the grasped, the nature of samsara. The energy is clinging to objects and clinging to self and mine. The function is to create various kinds of happiness and suffering in samsara. The result is endless samsara and the lower realms. In the Self-Arisen it also says: The impure state exists in the self-nature of all sentient beings, the impure threefold structure exists. That state is like this: between the heart and the lungs, there also exists a threefold structure. Then it moves from the veins, the life-vein is the path arising from the veins. The doors arise from the mouth and nose, from which eighty thousand, and other afflictions, arise in various ways. And in the Vajrasattva Heart Mirror Tantra it says: All sentient beings who are sustained by life are mostly possessed by ignorance, which is called affliction. Moreover, it relies on the skandha of the body as its basis.

From there, it resides between the heart and lungs. Moreover, it is not just ignorance; what is called "mind" exists adorned with the collection of all habits. There, what is called "intellect" exists together with the conceptualization of objects. The union of these three is called "ignorance," which is samsara. From that arise the five poisons and six angers. From that arise eighty thousand afflictions. If asked from which path these arise, it is from the red life-force channel between the lungs and heart, which runs upwards inside like a bamboo tube. It also runs upwards along the side of the spine. It is also connected to the small tip on the left side. These run riding on the horse of breath. It runs from the mouth and nose, and from that arise various actions and afflictions. The channel between the heart and lungs is: from the lungs, the horse-channel of breath enters there; from the heart, the channel of clear awareness enters there, and these two meet. From the mixture of breath and clear awareness arise the collector of habits—mind; the conceptualization of objects—intellect; ignorance dependent on awareness, the threefold structure of emptiness-essence being the same but functions being different, dwells on the horse of breath. Therefore, the grasping and the grasped, the afflictive conceptualizations, are established as what is called samsara. If this is realized, because it is sudden, it is easy to destroy; if it is not realized, because it has been habitual from beginningless time, its power is strong, so it is difficult to separate. Regarding it being sudden, the Hevajra says: Sentient beings are Buddhas, but are obscured by sudden stains. If that is removed, it is Buddhahood. And, the Pramāṇavārttika says: The nature of mind is clear light, stains are sudden. Therefore. Because conceptualization is ignorance, it lasts a long time and is the cause of samsara. The Praise to Manjushri says: Conceptualization is great ignorance, it is what causes one to fall into the ocean of samsara. Because of being separated from that conceptualization, you are always in nirvana. The second meaning, explaining in detail the nature of wisdom. In the Abhisamayalankara it says: Wisdom is not conceptualization, its essence is the meaning of self-luminous heart. Classifications are considered to be three. Definition is the meaning of being present from the beginning. Knowing it thus is wisdom. Thus it is said. Therefore, here there are four: essence, definition, classification, and individual meanings. First, the essence of wisdom is that each individual's awareness is present from the beginning in the expanse of awareness.
