There are five types of pride: the pride that is like the supreme sky, the pride that is like a brave tiger, the pride that is like a conceited vulture, and the pride that is like an elephant that considers itself equal despite being unequal. There are also five types of jealousy: subtle jealousy, jealousy arising from self, extremely harsh jealousy, coarse jealousy, and jealousy based on views. These are the twenty-five afflictions. Secondly, the fifty-one afflictions are as follows: the twenty-five afflictions that are objects of perception, and the twenty-five afflictions that are subjects of perception, totaling fifty. Adding the root ignorance, there are fifty-one. Thirdly, the eighty-four thousand afflictions are: twenty-one thousand arising from desire, twenty-one thousand arising from hatred, twenty-one thousand arising from delusion, and twenty-one thousand arising from equanimity, totaling eighty-four thousand. Even the eighty-four thousand afflictions, if divided into infinite clarity, are immeasurable and inconceivable. As it says in the Shar: "From this arose the inconceivable, the unspeakable, the uncountable." These also arise from mind, intellect, memory, habitual tendencies, and doubt, and are universally produced. They are stained by the impurity of afflictions, and thus have the nature of creating afflictions in samsara. As it says in the Union of Sun and Moon: "These and other afflictions are the mind that follows thoughts, the intellect that follows memories, the habitual tendencies that connect, the conceptualization that is the basis of all doubts, and the aspects of grasping objects and things, etc., which are immeasurable." Thus, all actions and afflictions depend on the mind and mental factors of the three realms, which are the eight aggregates of consciousness. The alaya-consciousness is the non-conceptual, pure consciousness that does not contemplate objects but is the cause of manifestation, and the five sense consciousnesses that arise from it: eye consciousness grasping form, without conceptualization; ear consciousness grasping sound, without conceptualization; nose consciousness grasping smell, without conceptualization; tongue consciousness grasping taste, without conceptualization; body consciousness grasping touch, without conceptualization. From these arise the two consciousnesses of grasper and grasped, the first being the one that grasps the generalities of objects.

The mind consciousness and the subsequent differentiating clinging afflicted mind are the apprehended and the apprehender. These two mind consciousnesses have three types: virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral. They also exist in various forms, such as with or without conceptualization. The five sense consciousnesses and the alaya consciousness are without conceptualization. Thus, all fifty-one minds and mental factors of the three realms are to be abandoned as mere fabrications, as stated in the Two Truths: "The minds and mental factors of the three realms, their fabricated aspects are false." These are to be abandoned because they are the nature of ignorance. Here, taking the mind as the path, even the great Buddhist systems such as Madhyamaka, which desire enlightenment, divide the mind and mind-essence into two. They gather the nature of the eight, seven, or six aggregates of consciousness into what is to be abandoned, and realize the naturally pure mind-essence as what is to be adopted, thereby engaging in the practice of the path. This is also somewhat similar in that it speaks of awareness and the mind-essence arising from awareness, as well as the mind that clings to its own characteristics. As stated in the sixth chapter of the Klong Drugpa: "O great being, the mind-essence of awareness and that which arises from awareness is beyond all defilements and conceptualizations. In short, it is all the causes and effects of transcendence from suffering, the realm of those who see the self-manifestation of awareness. The mind that clings to its own characteristics is like this: all that appears as fabricated, all that appears as existent, all that appears as non-existent, all that appears as appearance, all that appears as sound, all that appears as seeing, and all that appears as meditating, appears as acting, all that appears as clinging, conceptualizing, and afflictions, in short, all that appears as objects of thought. In short, all the phenomena of samsara are the mind that clings to its own characteristics, the appearances of the respective karmas of the six classes of beings." So it is said. Are these two then the same? There is a great difference. Whatever view, meditation, or action is done by the common vehicle cannot transcend the mind, but here, not mixing with the mind, awareness is manifestly most excellent, and so on, there are many. Fourth, regarding the individual meanings, the support, place, path, door, essence, ability, function, and result of the mind, there are eight. The support is the upper body of the physical aggregate. The place is connected from the heart to the lungs.
