It is the basis of appearance, appearing as if a cushion is laid in between. Various realms appear, and various kinds of sentient beings, the six realms and three realms, appear as beings, and their bodies, pleasure and pain, and many parts of the mind's delusion are held. The Dharmakaya, however, is without all of that, not abiding together with the mind and so on. From Rangshar: The alaya holds conceptual thoughts, deceived by various deluded knowledges. The alaya is an object of non-awareness. That is what is called alaya. And again: The basis of sentient beings and the basis of Buddhas, are definitely distinguished by one difference. And from the Garland of Pearls: The alaya itself is for accumulation, the Dharmakaya is the exhaustion of outflows, empty and clear, clear and pervasive, unpolluted by thought, memory clear, free from elaboration itself, pervading and empty like the sky, free from all self-purifying signs. The alaya with causes and conditions, with habitual tendencies and so on, is like a pond. The Dharmakaya is free from habitual tendencies. From the aggregation of mind and thoughts and so on, the sentient alaya appears as many. Since the Dharmakaya is free from mind and so on, many forms appear as without body. So it is said. Moreover, the alaya is the place of mind, while the Dharmakaya is the place of wisdom. From the Kuntuzangpo Longdrupa Tantra: O Great Bodhisattva, the place of mind is the alaya. Why is that? Because the alaya gathers all objects of thought, and is known as mind. The place of wisdom is the Dharmakaya. Why is that? Because the Dharmakaya does not possess all memory and conceptualization, and there is no knowledge that grasps different objects. So it is said. Some with manifest pride think that the alaya is the Dharmakaya. In the common treatises, the alaya is considered the basis of all that is pure and impure, and the Dharmakaya, among the pure, is considered the stainless Suchness. In some mantras, the alaya is considered to be transformed into the pure wisdom of the Dharmadhatu and the Svabhavikakaya. The alaya is the basis of all, and also the basis of Nirvana. So it is said. The alaya is transformed into the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu, the Svabhavikakaya. Thus it is said, and from the differences it is also said to be contradictory in substance. Harm to this

Yes. If the ālaya is the dharmakāya, then the dharmakāya would become tainted, and the ālaya would generate the illusion of the vessel and its contents, then the dharmakāya would become the generator of illusion. If you admit this, then there would be harm from reasoning such as reverting from Buddhahood to delusion as a sentient being, and there would also be no harm from the supreme scripture. The Mirror of the Mind of Samantabhadra says: "To consider the ālaya as the dharmakāya is to stray from me." And Rigpa Rangshar says: "Some consider the ālaya as the dharmakāya. To answer them, the characteristics of the ālaya are as follows." Then he replied: "Because everything is complete, it is the ālaya." Then, with a question, he refuted: "Is there a reason for the Buddha to change?" Because the ālaya manifests in various ways. Because everything is complete from that. Will sentient beings become Buddhas? Why is everything complete? Or will it become alternating? Why does it manifest in various ways? Sometimes it becomes a Buddha. Sometimes it becomes a sentient being. Why is it definite?" Then, refuting the question, he said: "Then is there no ālaya?" Then, answering the question, he said: "The ālaya, for those who hold onto conceptual thoughts, is deceived by the knowledge of various illusions. All ignorance is a real thing." Thus. Therefore, the ālaya and the dharmakāya must be distinguished. The Sixth Expanse says: "Therefore, if the ālaya and the dharmakāya are not distinguished, it is like holding onto one form as different knowledge, and it will not be able to manifest separate meanings." The analogy for these two is: like the appearance of the ocean and a boat. The wisdom of the dharmakāya, originally pure, has never experienced defilement, like the clear expanse of the ocean. It is not established anywhere, but the opportunity to manifest anywhere is not obstructed. The original pure land is naturally pure, and it is free from sudden, accidental defilements, so it occupies a firm position in the expanse, and it is a part that has both purity and impurity. Just as the ālaya boat does not enter the ocean. When delusion arises from the original expanse, it is the basis of all fundamental ignorance, and the pervader, and the essence that remains like a boat. It is filled with minds and mental factors, karma and habits, and many people of delusion. Rangshar says: "The analogy for the ālaya and the dharmakāya is: like the situation of the ocean and a boat. Like the situation of sleeping and waking. There is a difference in the senses."
