Sa. If the knowledge arises that grasps what is not that as that, then that is the immediately preceding condition. That is to say, initially there are three kinds of ignorance that cause delusion: merely the aspect of not recognizing one's own nature. Since grasping and the grasped have not arisen, it is said that there is actually no delusion, and this becomes delusion. For example, like the nameless becoming named, this is the ignorance of the single nature of the cause itself. Merely not knowing that, the ignorance that arises simultaneously with that, is the cause of the appearance of both samsara and nirvana. In this way, on the appearance of the light of objects, from the aspect of the mind separating the appearance of duality, it becomes the aspect of grasping names and meanings as self, which is called the ignorance of complete imputation. For such a cause, there are four conditions: the condition of the cause is made by the combination of the three ignorances in this way, just as blemishes naturally arise in a person who has form and limbs. From that, the objective condition is like a mirror, appearing on the external object, and because there is a face there, the condition is like the face appearing in the mirror. From the objective object, the self-light shines outward. From that, the condition of the possessor is like grasping the mirror, the face, and the self-entity as the face and the mirror, grasping the light, awareness, and dharmata as three, which is called the condition of the possessor. In this way, the three ignorances of the cause and the three conditions exist simultaneously, and this is the immediately preceding condition, which is the actual cause of delusion. These four conditions, at the time of a person, the cause is the same in Buddhas and sentient beings, so recognizing it as wisdom that transcends acceptance and rejection, the condition of the cause is liberated in its own place. The appearance of various objects is liberated as the self-appearance of dharmata, so the objective condition, the different objects, are liberated in their own place. That also appears and is liberated as self-born wisdom, so the condition of the possessor is liberated in its own place. Because time is not fixed, the earlier and later times contradict each other, and the immediately preceding condition is liberated in its own place. In this way, the nature of delusion is created by the two, cause and condition. The ripening of those two is done by the body, so accumulation arises differently. Because the mind acts as the cause, the objects of consciousness become different, so the object and the mind are deluded into being different. That which has body and mind is also deluded in the first moment. This itself is the beginning of samsara, as it says in the *Uttaratantra*: The beginning of all samsaras is undifferentiated, unmade, self-

From the aspect of... The object of grasping as an object appears, appearing different from conceptual grasping. The twelve links of dependent origination are the beginning of samsara. The way delusion arises from the three ignorances is the continuous and inseparable root. Because of not recognizing it as one's own nature, this is also the beginning of samsara. Thus it is said. At that time, the twelve links of dependent origination arise in a forward manner. Because of not recognizing the self-nature of the power of compassion, the three ignorances arise, which is ignorance. The four conditions are the activities that create samsara. From this, consciousness coarsely experiences the aspects of objects, which is consciousness. From this, the body and name arise from different karmas, which are name and form. The distinction is that the colors and the individual components are established, which are the six sense sources. From this, experiencing from objects is contact. From this, the three feelings of pleasure, pain, and indifference arise, which is feeling. From this, the consciousness that is attached to pleasure and unwilling to accept suffering is craving. From this, taking objects is grasping. From this, karma and afflictions increase, and the karma that propels one to future lives is completed, which is existence. From this, arising in different realms is birth. From this, reaching the peak, aging, and dying is old age and death. This is also the delusion arising from the twelve wheels from the beginning to me. The luminosity of one lifetime disappears, and in the first moment of the possibility of manifestation in the bardo of existence, not recognizing one's own nature is ignorance. Death occurs when the outer breath ceases, and in between is the forward arising of dependent origination. After that, the subtle and coarse ways of absorption, and the order of the gallbladder and stomach, etc., are reversed. When the deluded appearances disappear and return to samsara, from the arising of the original purity of the self-born Dharma nature that transcends suffering, the appearances of the Dharma nature bardo, etc., are the manifestation of dependent origination that transcends suffering. There, not recognizing one's own nature also leads to samsara, and recognizing it leads to liberation, therefore it is called liberation from samsara. That is also the base and the base appearance. Although both lack ignorance, it arises suddenly like a cloud, becoming a condition. It becomes a special cause for the impure to appear as samsara, and there is delusion in each of the three realms and six paths. As it is said in the "String of Pearls": In the Dharma nature that abides in this way, there is originally no delusion. The Dharmakaya is like the sky, suddenly obscured by the clouds of sentient beings. Thus it is said, the base appearance is great.
