I am for abandonment. The first three are for self-benefit, and the latter three are for the benefit of others. Thus it is said. In its commentary, it says: Such an exceedingly wondrous and inconceivable realm is the Buddha himself, not heard from others, without a teacher himself, with self-born wisdom, manifestly and completely awakened in the inexpressible nature. In order to make others who do not correspond to the realization and become blind also realize, in order to guide them to realize, it should be known that he is endowed with supreme wisdom and compassion. Such a teacher attained enlightenment before all, accomplishing the benefit of the Buddhas of the three times and all sentient beings of the three realms, abiding without beginning or end, therefore he is called the all-perfect sovereign teacher Samantabhadra. His field and activity are pervasive throughout the realm of Dharma and the limits of space, and the appearance of sentient beings and Buddhas is as much as that. The third meaning, the way in which ignorant sentient beings are confused, is: Although there is no confusion in the initial ground, when the ground appears, the unknowing consciousness of ignorance, which is unindicated and has the root of awareness, divides the ground appearance into categories, and thus is confused into sentient beings. As it says in the Garland of Pearls: From the appearance of great distinction, the two, existence and non-existence, arise, called the basis of common confusion, because it is mixed with ignorance itself, the knowable itself also appears as defilement. Thus it is said. The Dharmakaya is like the sky, suddenly sentient beings are obscured by clouds, the unconfused nature of reality also appears as a way of confusion in the mind, with causes and conditions, in an instant. Thus it is said. In the Vajrasattva Heart Mirror Tantra, it says: All these sentient beings of the three realms are confused from a basis that is nothing into anything. The nature of that basis is emptiness, naturally luminous, and compassion can appear to sentient beings. To this, the consciousness of grasping arises, a slight movement arises from the part of ignorance, and just as the thought arises, 'Did I arise from that dark consciousness, or did that arise from me?' one is confused. That ignorance is not on the ground, but on experience or appearance. From appearance arise four kinds of conditions. That is, the ground is luminous.

Existing in a certain way is called the causal condition, which is ignorance itself. Speculating on this is called the dominant condition. Holding this as an object-possessor is called the objective condition, like the appearance of a person's face in a mirror. These three exist simultaneously, hence it is called the immediately preceding condition. It is originally one's own basis, but due to not recognizing oneself, one becomes deluded, thereby forming the cycle of the three realms. From this, afflictions become coarse, and the forms of sentient beings become different. From such a basis, delusion arises. When the basis appears, and discriminating wisdom arises, due to the ignorance of the sole nature of the cause, the part of oneself that does not recognize itself, and the impurity of the objects of the four conditions, delusion arises. These principles are from the 'Auspicious Ornament'. It says, 'Delusion also arises from the basis of conditions, and ultimately it comes down to the four conditions. Due to holding the cause as having an object, one is deluded into becoming the cause of various fruits. Due to holding the master as object-possessor, one is deluded into various names. Due to holding the object as knowing, one is deluded into not leading to a result. Due to the immediately preceding condition holding onto having a holder, one is deluded into various appearances.' This is the great way of delusion of the basis of tantra. Furthermore, the mother of appearance, the condition of ignorance, appears together with self-born and co-emergent. This ignorance also gathers numerous conceptual thoughts together with the five root afflictions. Together with thousands of conditions, together with various ways of appearing, pervaded by ways of appearing. Furthermore, from the uninterrupted appearance of the abiding state of the spontaneously accomplished jewel box, the basis does not change, but the appearance changes, following various objects, thereby becoming attached to everything. Although the appearance of the Dharmakaya does not change, in the deluded appearance, it appears as if it is changing. Vajrasattva does not have delusion, but shows the way of delusion to sentient beings. Ultimately, transforming one's own appearance onto the basis of one's own conditions. Not recognizing that the non-dual appearance is one's own arising, because of holding delusion as the master, it is the dominant condition. Not recognizing that the fruit of self-awareness is one's own arising, because of holding the cause as dependent, it is the causal condition. Not recognizing that objects and consciousness are empty, because of holding the object as an object, it is the condition of the object's own nature. Because of relying on time, not recognizing that light is self-born.
