What is mind, and why is it mind? It is not the discrimination of wisdom, but the essence of self-luminous essence. Its differences are established as three. The defining word, the meaning of being inherently abiding, knowing it thus is wisdom. Moreover, as the "Pearl Garland" says: Because mind arises from accumulation, and is also mixed with defilements, the mind that gathers the alaya consciousness, etc., has become a number of defilements, so the difference between mind and wisdom should be known by the wise. Mind is the basis of all habits, and the defilement of sentient beings. Grasping the object to be grasped is mind, therefore it is the nature of samsara. Separating from that mind is becoming a Buddha, and the defilements of all sentient beings are exhausted. Beings all walk by that mind, otherwise they cannot walk, so beings are like a revolving wheel. The heart is free from all movement, not like a stubborn stone, but the clarity of knowing awareness, burning all discriminations, wisdom devours like fire, is equal to space, and is complete with emptiness and awareness. Therefore, wisdom shows light, and unseparated great compassion arises spontaneously, pervading and universally explaining, all dharmas are complete. Remembrance is non-remembrance, and wisdom is free from the object of remembrance. Wisdom is like this, the wisdom of the pure ground, complete with the holding of characteristics and the pervasion of objects. Thus it is said. These sequences should be understood as explained in the Supreme Vehicle Jewel. Thus, the determination of the difference between alaya and dharmakaya, mind and wisdom, is the key point of the Great Perfection Heart Essence's analysis, so it is extremely important to distinguish the differences. Among them, the analysis of the determination of cause and effect abides, so it is said: In this state, there is no search for cause and effect, there is no view, practice, etc., it speaks of the principle of negating the absence of beginning and end, otherwise, on the function of scattering outside of nature, various plays appear, the nine realms of sentient beings and the world, never say that there is no cause and effect. The dharmakaya wisdom is inherently pure in nature, so in terms of the nature of ultimate truth, it is said that cause and effect, acceptance and rejection, and actions such as searching, are inherently non-existent. However, from the alaya and its functions, many consciousnesses arise

If one speaks of the phenomena of samsara, which appear in various ways, as having no cause, no effect, etc., one will fall into nihilistic views like the Cārvākas, because all the phenomena of samsara, which are conventional truths, appear from the power of causes, conditions, interdependence, and illusion. How do they appear? Interdependence, arising from conditions, conditioned phenomena, and numbers are beyond thought. The illusions of samsara and peace and happiness are also beyond thought. All of these are the interdependence of the gathering of causes and conditions. Pure lands and happiness, and impure lands and suffering, all pervade like the expanse of space, and are the appearance of their respective causes, conditions, and interdependence, like illusions. Although they are empty because they have no essence, the appearance of forms is the power of interdependence, just as horses and cattle appear from the mantras and substances of illusion. In the *Sūtra of the Collection of Noble Qualities*, it says: "The nature of the realm of space is also endless. The wisdom that guides the world is also endless. The nature of the realm of sentient beings is also endless." And in the *King of Samādhi Sūtra*, it says: "Actions done and accumulated will never be destroyed. In samsara, the fruits of black and white will ripen." And in the *Heap of Jewels Sūtra*, it says: "From virtuous actions, all happiness arises, and one will see many endless Buddha-fields. From non-virtuous actions, all suffering arises, and one will experience the burning places of the lower realms and bad migrations." The distinction of separating cause and effect is: If measured by nature, nothing is established. By acting as a path, at the time when nature does not move, nothing is visible, and it is counted at the time of thought. When nature is perfected, nothing is stained. At the time when the wisdom of the Dharmakāya's ultimate meaning abides in its own nature, nothing is established in samsara, nirvana, cause and effect, etc., because all elaboration is pacified and there is no establishment or refutation. Because that nature itself has no action, it is like the annihilation of samsara. To act without moving from that at all times is the transformation into the Great Perfection of cause and effect. This is what is called going beyond good and evil, cause and effect. Otherwise, by being confused about cause and effect, samsara will arise even if one does not want it to, just as a sprout arises from a seed that is sown in a place where warmth and moisture are combined. If a part of delusion is lost from nature, then the yogin...
