Just as images appear in a clear ocean, the body remains unmoving in the vajra posture, the eyes gaze steadily without wavering, the environment is not rejected, and various appearances are clear, the mind does not conceptualize, and contraction and expansion cease on their own, awareness is purely and openly placed. From the 'Ornamental Array of Jewels': 'The very essence of awareness is an example of unobstructed openness. For example, in a clear ocean, the sun, moon, and stars appear. Without any time for drowsiness, it abides in great openness.' So it is said. To extol the vast expanse of liberation as a testament: The mind that expands and praises, free from contraction and expansion, the intention of all-equal, self-arisen wisdom, the experience of inner and outer merging with the sky, the arising of bliss-clarity samadhi free from elaboration. Just recognizing it, without meditating on antidotes, the upper body is like a lion, the gaze is leveled, and the eyes are fixed far away, seemingly lost in the realm of appearances. Awareness is expanded, and the five senses are allowed to wander freely, so that inner and outer become leveled. The experience of the body merging with the sky, and the experience of bliss-clarity non-conceptuality, the experience of great openness, and the experience of naked openness of awareness arise. All appearances seem empty, light, and transparent. Knowing is open, without trace, and empty. Everything is open, liberated, and ultimately empty. From the state of nothingness, everything seems to arise. No matter how much one examines and thinks, one cannot find any conceptual thoughts. It seems impossible for them to arise now, and they have not arisen in the past. Now, no one has any thoughts, so what is meant by saying there are many conceptual thoughts? And so on, the experience of openness, beyond words, arises. As the 'Lion's Complete Strength' says: 'The intention abides in its own place, in the stillness of samadhi. The unreal, self-appearing, is the lord of all mandalas. The unchanging, self-perfected, is the realm of all dharmata. Self-appearing, non-conceptual, alone abides clearly. Discriminating thought, free from the mind's conceptualization, is the great reason for the meaning of secret mantra.' So it is said. These are the three commitments of resting awareness in the state of non-meditation that have been completed. Now, with the great axe of discernment, cutting through the extremes of doubt, resting in the self-arisen intention, the discernment of how illusory samsara is purified: Resting in the unwavering foundation, the intention of dharmata.
