And by leaving naked awareness, just as it is, without abandoning it, luminosity naturally abides in its own nature, this is the special quality of this dharma. At this time, regarding how to establish connection, there are three teachings: the exhortation to practice, the difference between meditation and cultivation, and how to actually practice. One must practice, because now is the time to distinguish the boundary between samsara and nirvana. If one practices diligently, one can attain enlightenment in this very life; if one does not practice, one can only gain some recognition, occasionally using leisure time for Dharma, but it is of no help when needed; if one does not cultivate, one will forever wander in samsara. As it says in the Madhyamaka: "The fault of not cultivating is that the characteristics of samsara manifest, self and other, objects and consciousness, words, views, objects with focus, and afflictions will bind oneself, lose the path to Buddhahood, not understand the nature of the fruit, the basis of equality of all dharmas does not exist, the self-aware three realms are bound, and one will fall due to conceptual thoughts." It is also recorded in the common vehicle, as it says in the Avatamsaka Sutra: "Like a blind musician, others are delighted by him, but he himself cannot hear. Not cultivating the Dharma is also like that. Like a wise physician who is skilled, who can save many beings, but he himself dies there. Not cultivating the Dharma is also like that. Like those who are tormented by thirst, seeing or hearing water, they cannot quench their thirst. Not cultivating the Dharma is also like that." The Abhidharma-kosa says: "For the sake of separation, cultivation is most important." and so on. Regarding the difference between meditation and cultivation, in the general teachings of the common vehicle, and in order to guide those with lesser faculties, many stages of contemplation are taught here. In short, all cultivation can be summarized into two types: contemplation with a support and contemplation without a support. Contemplation with a support means to focus the mind without distraction on any of the external appearing objects, such as form, sound, smell, taste, touch, etc., that is, to focus on the image of a deity, ritual implements, trees, stones, etc. Contemplation without a support means the object of the mind, that is, to focus on the individual objects of the channels, winds, and bindus with appearance, and to desire to achieve non-conceptualization.

Letters, spheres of light, chakras, and the fire visualization of tummo, etc., are the stages of mental focus, which is mind-focus. Non-attention is when the body is in a lotus posture, etc., and the mind is fixed without any thought, without any distraction. This is also the state of emptiness, the object of non-discrimination. In general, objects can be summarized into two types: with discrimination and without discrimination, and here it refers to including both. In short, meditating on all desires in a single focus is called meditation, its nature is mind-abiding, its necessity is to expect results because of its stability, and its function is to want to prevent the grasper and the grasped. As it says in the Madhyamakavatara, "Meditation is mind-abiding, cutting off inner and outer movements, the cessation of grasper and grasped." Also, in the same text, it says, "Nerves, winds, and bindus, bodily postures, objects, and emptiness, are called meditation, which is desire." These are taken as objects of focus simply because of the desire to prevent the grasper and the grasped, and the mind tends to grasp them, so it is a means of entering profound Dharma, but not the yoga of profound Dharma itself. Contemplation is a special Dharma of this Great Perfection, just as fire itself has heat as its inherent quality, and water itself has moisture as its natural state, awareness itself has its own natural contemplation. Therefore, once awareness is recognized, it abides in its natural contemplation, and even without special effort, the experience of bliss, clarity, and non-discrimination will arise naturally, and the natural contemplation will also arise in the bardo, just as the inherent manifestation of awareness itself. It is the same here, once the mind becomes the path, the experience of meditating on mind-abiding, if effort is made, it exists, and if it is let go, it disappears, this is the nature of Dharma. Once awareness becomes the path of wisdom, it abides in the stream of natural contemplation, and the qualities that arise naturally will always remain inseparable. Therefore, the great meditator grasps the part of the mind that is without discrimination, and the yogi recognizes awareness nakedly as without discrimination, and although the two are similar in being without discrimination, if the mind abides in non-discrimination, the bodily posture, etc., will disappear if let go, and the nature is not realized, while the non-discrimination of awareness is the opposite of this, and there is a great difference. The path of mind makes the temporary discrimination
