To abide in the spontaneous appearance is to practice the wisdom that transcends all fixed notions. There is no calculation of dharma and non-dharma, and it transcends the sectarian confines of the unattached, empty space. Eating, walking, sleeping, and sitting, day and night are spread out evenly, which is the state of equality of natural law. There is no god to worship, nor a demon to strike. There is no dharma to meditate on, only the ordinary, natural state. The unmade king is without pride and is equal in all ways, being simple, free, and uniquely independent. It is blissful because it is unmade, primordially accomplished, and free from effort and striving. Here, if those who abide in dharma and the path are different from ordinary people and spend their days and nights busy with various religious activities, then what can be accomplished by abiding in ordinariness? If that is the case, then there is no difference between worldly people and yogis? This should be understood as follows: One is that because they have not trained their minds in dharma from the world itself, they do not have dharma in their minds, and therefore they are free from the activities of dharma. The other is that they are at ease because they realize that dharma is primordially accomplished without effort. Because they have attained dharma, abandoned dharma, and transcended dharma, they have no activities of dharma and appear to abide in the spontaneous, ordinary state. Furthermore, worldly people are busy with worldly affairs and their minds are enslaved by them, but yogis do not have this, so it should be understood that they are not the same as ordinary worldly people. If they were the same, then just as ordinary people wander in samsara, yogis would also fall into delusion. However, because the three doors are free from activity, there is no cause for delusion, and because the appearance of ordinariness is awakened into emptiness, there is no bondage. It is liberation from karma and its ripening. For example, a hemp rope that has been burned by fire appears to be a rope, but it cannot perform the function of binding, just as it came from being burned by fire. Similarly, because the mind of a yogi is awakened into emptiness, it appears that knowledge arises in terms of affirmation and negation, and although it appears that they hold food, clothing, and wealth, they realize that it is like a rootless dream and do not cling to it, so they cannot be bound. Worldly people do not have this, so their minds are bound by their clinging to self-characteristics, just as a rope that has not been burned by fire has affirmation and negation freely arising in their inner minds and outer appearances, so they are bound. Therefore, the Lord of Yoga said, "Whatever you are attached to, let it go. If you realize it, then everything is that. No one can know anything other than that." And again, he advised, "Appearance does not bind, clinging does."

Binding. Like, "Cut off attachment, Naropa!" it is said. For ordinary people, it is to abandon wrong thoughts. Those who have little merit and small capacity, and whose minds are not directed towards realization and great Dharma, say: In the state of realizing the nature of reality, it is enough to practice the Dharma that should be practiced. Don't you want to obtain the fruit of happiness? Answer: All dharmas appear equally in the face of awareness, but you distinguish between good and bad. You do that yourselves! We do not abandon one of the dreamlike dharmas, nor do we take one. If you engage in abandonment and effort, it is contrary to the yogi. Because the yogi of the Great Perfection of self-nature is not hoping for the result, nor is he a vessel for the cause and effect of effort. Therefore, it is said that this is a Dharma set up to guide the children of the Hinayana. As it is said in the Kunje Gyalpo Tantra: If you ignorantly make efforts like that, you will violate the meaning of transcending cause and effect, and you will not encounter the great bliss of non-action, and you will be bound by the ignorance of the disease of effort. Therefore, for the Great Perfection that transcends cause and effect, it is not the realm of those who have no capacity, and you should examine the Dharma of cause and effect. Therefore, we come from the scriptures, and we will not violate the scriptures. Again, those with small capacity will say: Everything is equal in awareness. If non-action is true, then it will be accomplished if you do it, and it will not be accomplished if you don't do it, so you must do it. Answer: If it is not accomplished, it will not be accomplished even if you try; if it is accomplished, you don't need to try. Effort is relative truth, and for the ultimate truth of mind, there is nothing to do. Moreover, the Dharmakaya has already been accomplished in the nature of mind. If you abide in it, it will appear; if you create it, it will not be accomplished, just like the image in clear water, it will not appear if it is turbid. In that tantra it says: Buddhahood is not accomplished by effort, it is spontaneously accomplished by abiding in self-nature without seeking. Do not discriminate by abiding in self-nature without seeking! Therefore, effort is an obstacle to enlightenment, just like the flag that must be placed. If you seek action in the non-action of mind, you will violate cause and effect and the basic path, causing the fault of not being able to accomplish it. As it is said in the Kunje Gyalpo Tantra: Having already made effort, transcending ignorance, if you make effort, practice, and want to accomplish it, then there is no greater obstacle to enlightenment than that.
