because it is not an existent thing, and because it is neither clear nor unclear, it is not self-evident. This state that transcends knowing and not knowing, which cannot even be called "knowing," is called "freedom from extremes, the great perfection." Although symbolic terms can be used to refer to it, such as self-born wisdom, bodhicitta, dharmakaya, spontaneously accomplished expanse, and nakedly clear awareness, these are merely names used for the sake of understanding. In reality, one should realize it as the great inexpressible. If it is not like that, but one clings to the literal meaning of names, then there is no difference between that and the self-aware, self-illuminating, non-dualistic consciousness of the Mind-Only school. Those who have not trained their intelligence but want to utter nonsense here, confuse these two and arrogantly say, "We know this self-awareness." According to the system of Natural Great Perfection, the ways of measuring freedom from extremes and so on are mostly similar to those of the Madhyamaka. However, the Madhyamaka uses emptiness, emptiness like space, as its basis, while here, awareness that is pure from the beginning, nakedly clear, non-existent, and unceasing is taken as the basis, and from that, the dharmas that arise from its state are measured as being free from extremes like space. As the *Vigrahavyavartani* says: "Because many are not abandoned, it is beyond expression; because one is not established, its nature is pure. Because its nature is pure, all meanings are accomplished; its nature is pure and the basis is the beginning, the basis of samsara and nirvana is the beginning, without accumulation and essence, inexpressible and incomparable." And again: "Because it is uncreated, its essence is empty; because what is said ceases, it does not abide in extremes. Because defilements are exhausted, it is not obstructive; the source of memory ceases, its essence is clear. Clear awareness does not contemplate the extremes of objects, it is free from words, truly without terms, all dependencies are exhausted." And as the *Ratnagotravibhāga* says: "In the realm of dharma there is neither action nor non-action, because the nature of space is primordially pure, the dharmakaya itself has no characteristics of things, there is no inside or outside, in the vast expanse, the nature of vastness is free from extremes and without things, this supreme secret union of Great Perfection view, although there are extremely many stages of the vehicle, the secret meaning is one and only one nature, the realm of dharma is vast and without characteristics." And so on. Now, the nature of space, in which both grasper and grasped have never existed,

At the time of realization, in order for all dharmas to appear to the yogi as unattached and completely liberated, as a sign of the dissolution of inner clinging, the external objects of perception are shown to be liberated in all directions, that is: When looking outward at the realm of external appearances, everything is empty and clear, vague and indistinct, and completely open. Lari Zare, deep and profound, free from attachment, bondage, and dharma. Appearances, sounds, memories, awareness, and feelings are no longer the same as before. What is this? Is it the appearance of naturally insane? Or is it in a dream? Speaking to oneself in this way, one cannot help but laugh. Here, because one is certain of the time of one's own realization, it is possible to understand the appearances of all yogis. Just as one who is skilled in causality sees the performance of illusions as false and unreal, and thereby also understands the appearances of others who know causality. These appearances of the external world, which were previously seen as having inherent existence, but when the certainty of realization arises, the clinging to the reality of the self disappears, therefore, all objects of perception are like dreams, water moons, and mirages, empty and clear, vague and indistinct, and completely open. No matter what appears, one feels that it is Lari Zare, deep and profound, not knowing whether it exists or not, the self-nature appears without attachment. Beings also feel that their behavior has changed compared to before, and it seems that everything is without attachment, thinking: Can everyone understand all of this? Experiences, hearing, memories, and awareness also disappear as before, becoming empty and clear, without attachment or hindrance. Awareness is relaxed and open, and thoughts do not arise at all, thinking: Where has this kind of scene gone? In the places of arising, feeling, and abiding, the self-nature is pure, and knowledge becomes dull. Sometimes, one's own actions and all appearances and sounds become unattached, and one cannot help but laugh, thinking: Am I crazy, or are others crazy? Or is it in the bardo or in a dream? Knowing in this way. Awareness is revealed without attachment, which is inherent in everything, so what difficulty is there in realization? It is right here! Thinking in this way. Undifferentiated compassion arises openly, and one also proclaims this to others. Proclaiming the Vajra Song, the conduct of non-attachment, and the awareness without clinging. The open and unobstructed appearance of everything arises simultaneously. At this time, the Dharmakaya of the self-liberation of the grasper and the grasped arises from within, therefore, it is called the purification of the realm of clinging to the self. As it is said in the "String of Pearls": For the dharmas that appear as self-nature, because there is no impurity, both gross and subtle are liberated. Because there is no grasper or grasped, all confusion is liberated.
