Due to repeatedly habituating to the delusion of karma, beings become deluded. The baseless awareness, the Dharmakaya, is pure like the sky, and although it abides within itself, it is merely a sudden circumstance in a state of not knowing its true nature. As the "String of Pearls" says: "The Dharmakaya is like the sky, suddenly obscured by clouds of conceptual thought. Even the nature of non-delusion appears to the mind as a form of delusion. With causes and conditions, in an instant." And as the "Precious Garland" says: "The three paths have no beginning, end, or middle. The wheel of samsara is like a firebrand. Like a wheel, mutually, this which has causes becomes samsara." Thus, beings cling to deluded appearances as their own characteristics, but the same appearances appear to yogis as mere displays of illusion, and this is due to the key point that delusion is baseless and rootless. Furthermore, this self-nature of awareness is primordial purity, beyond delusion and non-delusion, like the sky. Its self-appearance is the self-luminous, nakedly pure Dharmakaya, called the baseless, completely pure great appearance. Its essence is not established in awareness or non-awareness, samsara or nirvana, or anything else. It is now empty and clear. When a yogi realizes this and does not stray from that state, the deluded appearances of external objects, the empty forms of illusion, are purified in the expanse of the ground appearance, the nature of reality. Such a yogi is called one whose samsara is nameless and pure like the sky. As the "String of Pearls" says: "Although it appears thus in objects, in the primordial purity of the very beginning, delusion cannot be spoken of as such. Likewise, what is non-delusion? Therefore, delusion is pure from the beginning. On that very ground appearance, the name of ignorance has not been affixed, so there is no establishment of delusion. Since 'mind' has not been universally affixed, there is not even the name of defilement or delusion. Since there is no collection of names and letters, there is no imputed delusion. Since 'dharma' has not been affixed as a name, there is not even the name of mentally imputed delusion. Since it has not been established as mind and intellect, there is no naturally occurring delusion of movement. Since there are no subtle or coarse defilements, there is no naturally occurring delusion of arising conditions. Since there are no agent and action, where is there delusion of object-grasping? Since there are no object and sense faculty, there is no delusion of grasper and grasped." And as the "Refutation" says: "Delusion is said to be pure from the beginning, it cannot be transformed into non-delusion, there is no

The Dharma of invisible appearances. Arisen thoughts of fabrication naturally cease. What appears from delusion is not an object of focus. Since the essence of primordial purity is unwavering, all dharmas are equally of one taste. Having abandoned clinging and conceptualization, one is primordially enlightened, not to be fabricated or transformed. Thus it is. In this way, by realizing that external objects do not exist, when the Dharma-nature, free from grasping, is pure like the sky, the inner clinging is established as baseless and without support. When a yogi looks inward with a pure mind: Awareness without a basis is free from names. No signs or expressions are seen, and the order of view and meditation disappears. Relaxed, loose, vast, and expansive. Without understanding practice, there are no session breaks or biases. Everything is let go, open and free, without intervals. In this way, by looking at one's own mind, its essence transcends the limits of what can be grasped, and it awakens in the nature of ungrounded space. This is the Dharma-nature of self-purification, called the Dharmakaya, which is free from the extremes of existence and non-existence. It is said in the Madhyamaka: Where could the root of all dharmas without a basis exist? A mind free from existence and desire. Unfabricated in nature, beyond expression. Actions and agents, the delusion of thoughts ceases. Without Dharma, there is no Buddha, and no sentient beings. No self, no ego, no grasping or grasper. It is not expressed in words, and there is not even a place called "mind." Because there is nothing, in the appearance of emptiness, the source of memories and consciousness is exhausted. In the uncreated Dharma-nature, the unarisen is most wonderful. In the unborn Dharmakaya, the absence of coming and going is most wonderful. In the unmoving awareness, the Dharma-nature is the place of non-arising. Thus it is. The awareness that realizes the inseparability of the grasped and the grasper is the great, spontaneously accomplished, unbiased, like this: Without reliance on body, place, or appearance. In the vast expanse of space, equally and openly. There is no clinging to the inner Dharma as self. Although the essence of the awareness that realizes the absence of grasping and grasper is named self-born wisdom, it is not considered self-knowing and self-illuminating like the Yogacara-cittamatrins. Because there is no inside or outside, it is not established as an inner mind; because there is no self or other, it is not established as only one's own awareness; because grasping and grasper have never existed, it is not established as being separate from the two; because it is not in the realm of feeling and awareness, it is not established as an experience of non-duality; because there is no mind and mental events, one's own mind
