Yogis who are free from thoughts, words, and elaborations, decisively determine with what can and cannot be expressed. Because they have not found what to meditate on and what to meditate upon, they do not need to kill the enemies of sinking, excitement, and conceptual thoughts. The self-face of awareness, which transcends view, meditation, effort, and accomplishment, is the lineage of the Vajra Essence. The nature of the realm without gathering and scattering, which transcends expression and words, is the realm of self-knowing wisdom, not the realm of thought, words, and elaborations. The Wondrous King says: "The nature of the inconceivable Dharma, the mind of enlightenment, cannot be attained by thought and word." So it is said. The Vajra Cutter Sutra says: "The nature of Dharma is not an object of knowledge, it cannot be known." So it is said. It is the realm of self-knowing, the Prajnaparamita that is beyond speech, thought, and words, the nature of unborn and unceasing space. I prostrate to the Mother of the Buddhas of the three times, who is the field of activity of self-knowing wisdom. So it is said. Other teachers say that the complete cutting off of Dharma nature is not an object of knowledge because it transcends thought and words. They say that the partial cutting off is an object of knowledge because it can be made into the object of those who see the truth. Such statements are merely lip service and are not acceptable because they are words that have not been experienced in oneself. Here, if one thinks with conceptual mind, it becomes elaboration, so it is not an object of memory and thought because it contradicts conceptual mind and substance. If one abides in a state of no thought and no word, the meaning appears in oneself, so it is the realm of self-knowing because the nature of awareness, Dharma nature, abides in the ultimate truth and manifests at that time. The person who realizes that meaning as self-arisen, spontaneously accomplished Great Perfection is the holder of the lineage of the most excellent Vajra Essence. That person who is in accordance with Dharma nature is also the aspect of non-action, non-effort, and pacification. As the Great Garuda says: "The mind whose nature is difficult to determine as existent or nonexistent can be touched, the wisdom that destroys the unthought-of confusion, the attitude of a non-acting fool, holding ease of mind, is practiced by those who have the mind of unelaborated space." As the Madhyamika says: "Or one who is gentle and slow in temperament, relaxed, foolish, and leisurely, with small conceptual thoughts and a slow nature, whose body and speech are free from action, is held by one who possesses wisdom." So it is said. Having known the nature of awareness, awareness itself abides in its own place.

Ma. Does it arise? Whatever happens, such as dullness and agitation, is merely the nature and play of self-arisen primordial wisdom. Faults and obscurations cannot be separately removed, because those faults and obscurations themselves do not arise as anything other than awareness. Awareness is primordially abiding in the Dharmakaya, free from effort, spontaneously accomplished, and great. It is like going to a golden island, where even if you search for bad earth and stones other than gold, you cannot find them. The All-Creating King says: "O great bodhisattva, listen!" "Even the Buddhas of the past did not seek Dharma outside their own minds. They never tried to adorn what is as it is. They never meditated on conceptual samadhi. Their own minds are accomplished through non-conceptuality. Those who are present now and those who will come in the future will also be accomplished through non-conceptual equality." Furthermore: "In the expanse of the Dharmadhatu of great bliss, the nature of great non-conceptual equality abides. In the nature of the Dharmadhatu, which is without appearance, do not engage in non-conceptual samadhi with awareness." "By abiding in its own state, it is unmoving and spontaneously accomplished. By abiding in its own nature, it cannot be altered by anyone. That which abides as it is, without searching, is the supreme of actionless activity." "(1)" Thus it is said. In self-abiding meditation, dullness and agitation are impossible. As it is said in the Heap of Jewels: "Self-nature meditation is uninterrupted, it is truly wonderful that there is no dullness or agitation!" Thus it is said. If one does not meditate on spontaneously accomplished meditation, but understands it as a continuous stream like a river, then whatever arises is Dharmata, so there is no fault, obscuration, dullness, agitation, distraction, or non-distraction, because the realm of distraction arises as the play of Dharmata. Other than that, even if a great meditator meditates with awareness focused on one point without distraction, he will only revolve in the bondage of formless realms of meditation, and will not attain enlightenment because of it, just like some pacifiers of today. The All-Creating King says: "Abandoning oneself and searching for others far away, accepting effort in effortless bliss, there is no disease greater than that. Holding onto non-distracted samadhi is bondage. It is primordially so, there is no distraction or loss. The deceiver who hopes for non-distracted samadhi is the prophecy that guides the Great Vehicle of cause and effect. Because it is primordially so, there is no distraction or loss, it is beyond all actionless effort."
