Because there is no change, whatever appears arises from the play of emptiness. Some say that because there is seeing and hearing, emptiness is not reasonable. If that were the case, that emptiness would be nothing, and focusing the mind solely on invisible things would be called annihilationism. We do not desire or argue for that kind of emptiness. Arguing with outsiders is just a waste of effort. The eight similes of illusion are cited to make it easier to understand the nature of emptiness directly. Now, we consider the appearances of seeing, hearing, sentient beings, the environment, samsara, and nirvana to be empty. If they did not appear, there would be no dependence, so what would one rely on? If one thinks it is the nature of reality, since no nature is established, it is not emptiness either. As it says in the Root Wisdom Treatise: "The four, such as empty and not empty, are not found in this peace." Because no dharma is established, it is imputed. The Buddhas have also said, "Neither I nor non-I exist." They have also examined "It is emptiness," and have said "It is not emptiness." It is like proclaiming this. These are important tenets of the philosophical schools, so they should be understood. Now, showing that contemplation is primordially liberated because it is empty in its own nature: One is liberated, liberated in the expanse of dharmata. Two are non-existent, liberated in the equality of object and mind. Self-arisen liberation, liberated in the expanse of wisdom. Spontaneously accomplished liberation, liberated in the purity of the ground. Because everything is unborn, emptiness is liberated as one, and it is not separate from the nature of one awareness, so it is liberated there. The appearance of object and the mind that grasps it as two, from the very beginning of appearance, does not waver from the non-dual awareness, so it is liberated there. The self-arisen wisdom of awareness has no limits or biases, so in the wisdom of meaning, it is liberated in the single, free from elaboration. The single spontaneously accomplished thigle is also beyond the realm of expression, so it is liberated in the expanse. Therefore, in the nature of the vast expanse of liberation, there is no establishment or rejection of samsara and nirvana. Therefore, obscurations are purified in the absence of an object, and the intention that cannot be obscured by anything is the self-arisen wisdom that has always been present. To explain this meaning briefly, it should be understood as it is stated in the scriptures. As it says in the Lion's Strength Perfection Sutra: The three thousand worlds are originally vast,

Do not obscure me. The Dharmadhatu is inherently vast, The narrow ravine does not obscure me. Self-arisen is inherently clear, The darkness of samsara does not obscure me. Awareness is inherently immortal, Birth and death do not obscure me. The three bodies are inherently present, The five poisons do not obscure me. Skillful means and wisdom are inherently present, The two, union and liberation, do not obscure me. The nectar is inherently healing, The root of the five poisons does not obscure me. Awareness is inherently impartial, The two, straying and obscuration, do not obscure me. The Dharmakaya is inherently selfless, The two, self and other, do not obscure me. Appearance is inherently self-luminous, The five elements do not obscure me. The three bodies are inherently self-complete, The two, generation and completion, do not obscure me. Clarity is inherently devoid of things, The dharma of characteristics does not obscure me. Self-awareness is inherently immutable, The two, virtue and vice, do not obscure me. Thus it is said. Without conceptualization of objects, self-appearing, The mind's grasping does not obscure me. Wisdom transcends dharma, The various thoughts do not obscure me. Not grasping at the two, appearance and object, The eight consciousnesses do not obscure me. Not distinguishing between Buddha and sentient beings, The two, good and bad, do not obscure me. Not distinguishing between emptiness and clarity, The two, sinking and agitation, do not obscure me. Not distinguishing between doing and what is done, The effort of the vehicle does not obscure me. Without realization and non-realization, The two, is and is not, do not obscure me. Without knowing and not knowing, The two, intellect and things, do not obscure me. Not grasping at direction and category, The two, enemy and friend, do not obscure me. Not distinguishing between edge and center, The two, straying and obscuration, do not obscure me. Without secret and non-secret, The two, suffering, do not obscure me. Without awareness and non-awareness, The two, darkness and light, do not obscure me. The five poisons and wisdom are non-dual, The two, grasping and conception, do not obscure me. Not looking outward and inward, The conditions of the elements do not obscure me. Not distinguishing between different and many, The one and the many do not obscure me. Not thinking of past and future, The two, samsara and nirvana, do not obscure me. Not grasping at clarity and obscurity, The two, distraction and dullness, do not obscure me. Thus it is said. That is because the nature of reality is inherently vast, so there is no obscuration.
