Endowed with purity, great being, supreme among beings! As companions for Dharma practice, six excellences are taught: The most excellent object of veneration is to honor the Lama and the Three Jewels. The most excellent form of giving is to relinquish the activities of this life. The most excellent wealth is to rely on study, reflection, and faith. The most excellent friend is to recognize the nature of one's own mind. The most excellent generation of bodhicitta is to abandon attachment to one's own desires. The most excellent sign of accomplishment is to see the Lama and the Buddha. If these are attained, both aims will be spontaneously accomplished. The six non-deeds to be abandoned are: Without knowing the capacity of others, abandon criticizing and scolding people. Do not discourage those with faith with gains from wrong livelihood. Do not intensify uncontrolled, reckless, and mad behavior. Do not despise others, be arrogant, and do not belittle. Do not abandon the sacred Dharma for the sake of food and clothing. Do not belittle the profound interdependence of cause and effect. If you abandon these, you will become a noble person. The six deeds of those who practice Dharma are: To carry the Lama, Yidam, and Dakini on the crown of your head. To transform the virtuous deeds of body, speech, and mind into the path of enlightenment. To completely abandon self-grasping, clinging to reality, and clinging to permanence. To utterly destroy attachment to this life. To eradicate the five poisons of affliction from their source with antidotes. To rely on the wealth of study, reflection, and meditation on your mindstream. Through this, both your own and others' prosperity will increase. The six Dharmas needed during practice are: You must abandon non-Dharma, as death is certain to come quickly. You must abandon idleness, as equanimity is likely to arise. You must rely on the antidote to laziness. You must not become familiar with what easily leads to wrong views. You must know that illusions, which are difficult to cut, are unreal. You must not associate with people who easily engage in wrong actions. The six refuges that include one within the Buddhist fold are: Taking refuge in the three bodies of the Buddha as the object to be accomplished. Taking refuge in the Dharma of the three vehicles as the path. Taking refuge in the Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattvas as companions. Taking refuge in the wise and accomplished Lama. Taking refuge in the mandala of Yidam deities for accomplishment. Taking refuge in the wisdom Dakinis for blessings. These should be cherished as preliminary practices. The six recognitions that faithful ones should have are: Recognizing death, turn your own benefit into Dharma. Recognizing wealth, reduce attachment to illusory appearances. Recognizing listening, listen to the Lama's instructions. Recognizing abandonment, abandon all sins of body, speech, and mind. Recognizing act
