related. To cut off the wrong path, connect listening, thinking, and practicing. It must be done well, as it seems very rare. The six supreme instructions are: If you understand the nature of reality, listening is supreme. If you cut off the root, thinking is supreme. If wisdom arises, skillful means are supreme. If it can be used for Dharma, blessings are supreme. If you realize no birth and no death, accomplishment (siddhi) is supreme. If you realize nothing to be gained, confidence is supreme. If you practice these, the Buddha will arise from within yourself. To accomplish the ultimate, the six things not to lose are: Liking to associate, do not be controlled by friends. Liking praise, do not be controlled by food. Liking to associate, do not be controlled by distraction. Liking affection, do not be controlled by relatives. Liking crafts, do not be controlled by spiritual friends. Liking to accumulate, do not be controlled by wealth. Thus, possessing these six, the path of Dharma will be perfected. Examining and abandoning the six faults of character are: Being agitated yourself, slandering others, the five poisons are gross. Being childish and ignorant, unrestrained, narrow-minded. Doing meaningless things, liking to associate. Being stubborn, unable to be persuaded. Liking to associate with the powerful, being fickle, shirking responsibility. Being insidious and cunning, harboring malice. To practice the sacred Dharma, examine faults and merits and abandon them. The six faults of bad conduct are: Not being grateful, repaying kindness with evil. Being stingy to oneself, extravagant to others. Being fickle, having many unstable elements. Being two-faced, happy in front but different behind. Not understanding reason, talkative and liking to speak. Having great expectations without effort. Stay away from these bad qualities, as they are contrary to the sacred Dharma. The six dharmas that liberate from the faults of perfection are: Having a firm mind, being self-disciplined and kind, having few actions. Being persevering, having a firm will, having patience. Not being deceived by others, not being robbed by circumstances. Having long-term plans, being sincere and respectful, without hypocrisy. Being intelligent and wise, having foresight, being skilled in using methods. Not speaking of others' faults, revealing one's own shortcomings. Such a person is supreme, a permanent friend on the path to enlightenment. The six kinds of jealousy among practitioners are: Being jealous of others gaining much wealth and enjoyment. Being jealous of others having many retinues and disciples. Being jealous of others accumulating much merit. Being jealous of others' fame spreading far and wide. Being jealous of others surpassing everything.

Furthermore, desiring distinction and not wanting anyone to be different from oneself, all these are shattered by the arrows of the desire deity. From this, the sprouts of six evil signs arise: longing for those who have merit, speaking ill of former Dharma teachers, becoming enraged upon seeing the prosperity of others, making sarcastic remarks to those who have loving-kindness and altruism, cursing those who have attained accomplishments in practice, and holding onto ignorant and wrong views. The six faults of associating with such evil people are: merely seeing them diminishes renunciation and faith; merely hearing them distances one from the path of liberation; merely remembering them plants the seeds of samsara; merely touching them causes blessings and accomplishments to vanish; merely conversing with them diminishes pure perception and devotion; and whoever forms a Dharma connection with them will be blessed by demons and will fall into the Avici hell after death. Therefore, be sure to stay away from such evil people. The six characteristics of evil naturally manifest: in terms of Dharma, they are worse than ordinary people; in terms of entering the teachings, they are worse than lowlifes; in terms of Mahayana, they are worse than non-Buddhists; in terms of secret mantra, they are worse than those with wrong views; in terms of practice, they are worse than sinners; and in terms of view and meditation, they are as different as heaven and earth. They are Buddhist thieves disguised as Dharma, leading faithful people astray and into the lower realms, so be sure to stay away. The six disharmonies that prevent the Dharma from being accomplished are: even if there is bodhicitta, if one does not make aspirations, one cannot sow the seeds of purifying the karma of the form body; even if there is compassion, if one does not abandon selfishness, one cannot enter the ranks of Mahayana altruistic conduct; even if one is in harmony with others, if the time has not come, one cannot accomplish the benefit of others, and it becomes a source of conflict; even if one lives in the mountains, if one's mind has not turned, it is difficult to cut through attachment, aversion, and clinging; even if one recites countless prayers without faith, not a single drop of blessing will fall; and even if one has great wisdom, if one is not liberated from conceptual elaboration, one will be bound in the prison of sectarianism. Therefore, it is essential to value the integration of key instructions. The six needs of practitioners are: fearing samsara as if being chased by an executioner; diligently engaging in virtue like a farmer plowing; applying antidotes to afflictions like a sick person taking medicine; wholeheartedly benefiting others like raising a young child; and being skilled in taming one's own mind like tanning leather.
