Third, there are five ways to practice the path in that way: explanations of the path of accumulation, the path of preparation, the path of seeing, the path of meditation, and the path of no more learning. First, there are two types: the basis and the nature. The basis is the basis of the newly generated Mahayana aspiration. That is, only after initially obtaining the Mahayana aspiration can one enter the small path of accumulation. Nature is divided into three types: cause, result, and essence. The cause is the naturally abiding lineage, awakened by hearing and thinking about the Mahayana. The result is the four paths of preparation, seeing, meditation, and no more learning. Essence is divided into four types: characteristics, basis, classification, and special qualities. First, the characteristic is that after initially entering the Mahayana, until the Mahayana heat is not generated, the root of virtue that is inseparable from the Mahayana aspiration is the basis, which can be explained as the term for the Mahayana path of accumulation. It is the root of virtue for attaining Buddhahood, encompassed by the first practitioner. What is the Mahayana heat, etc., becomes the cause of generating the first moment of the favorable part of decisive selection in one's own mindstream, as the commentary says: One who is joyful with the part corresponding to liberation, generates the part corresponding to decisive selection. The basis is the discipline that is motivated by the desire for perfect enlightenment from the time of initially entering the Mahayana until the Mahayana path of preparation is not generated, as well as guarding the doors of the senses, knowing the amount of food, not sleeping in the upper and lower parts of the night, diligently practicing yoga, abiding with mindfulness in the activities of taking and abandoning, thereby generating joy, not regretting virtue, joy and faith, and devotion, etc., becoming other roots of virtue that are the cause of liberation, as well as being encompassed by the wisdom arising from hearing, thinking, and meditating, becoming those who are capable of generating the path of preparation, etc. The classifications are the small path of accumulation, the medium path of accumulation, and the great path of accumulation. The small one is the cause of attaining Buddhahood, entering the beginning of the three countless eons, and the time of cultivating the four mindfulnesses, the time of generating the path of preparation is uncertain. As the Compendium of the Mahayana says: Those with the power of goodness and aspiration , the mind is firm, by special actions, countless three Bodhisattvas, constantly strive, it is said. Thus. The middle one is the four right abandonments.

The time of meditation, combined with the path, determines the time of birth in future lives. The great one, when meditating on the four legs of miraculous power, combined with the path, is certain to be born in that very life. Among the five distinctive qualities, the distinctive quality of the antidote is that regarding contaminated activities as faults is the antidote that dispels them. The distinctive quality of abandonment is that seeing faults in contaminated activities, manifest attachment is abandoned. The distinctive quality of realization is that with the wisdom of hearing and thinking about the two selflessnesses, realization in the manner of general meaning is greater, and there is also realization born of meditation, as it is said in the Compendium, "Wisdom born of meditation is also acceptable." The distinctive quality of merit is that the mind is workable, so the beginning of the path to enlightenment is grasped, and the mind abides in samadhi, tranquility, and insight, and so on. Through this power, eyes and direct knowledge, and so on, are obtained, and it is said that instructions are heard from the body of the Buddha's emanation, as it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: "At that time, from the stream of Dharma, in order to obtain the tranquility of the Buddhas, and vast wisdom, one goes to all the realms of the world. There, one perfects all gatherings, and obtains vast instructions." So it is said. Among the distinctive qualities of the instructions to be meditated upon, there are two: general and specific. First, in general, in all three paths of accumulation, the discipline that focuses on the movement of body and speech, and the wisdom of hearing, thinking, and meditating that focuses on the words and meanings of the scriptures, and the four seals of Dharma, and the five parts of liberation, and the Buddha, and the Dharma, and the Sangha, and discipline, and giving, and the body, and death, and birth, and the movement of breath in and out are all recollections. The method of meditating on the four seals is to generate bodhicitta, and then meditate that all conditioned phenomena are impermanent, and that the nature of samsara with contamination is suffering, and that all phenomena are without self, and that nirvana is peaceful, and then dedicate the merit. Likewise, one should meditate on the impermanence of one's own and others' lives, recollecting death, and the nine perceptions of the impurity of the body, and the eight thoughts of a great person, and the complete purification of the field of activity. Among them, the Dharma for taming activities is poison.
