Meditate on selflessness and illusions or dreams, etc. As it says, "Having fully understood all aspects of the unfavorable and the favorable, diligence arises in four ways to abandon the unwholesome." Also, in the Great Vehicle's path of accumulation, the four legs of magical power are cultivated. By cultivating the samadhi of single-pointed mind, the union of calm and insight, one accomplishes the desired meanings of eyes, clairvoyance, and magical powers, etc. As the Madhyāntavibhāga says, "Remaining there, being workable, all meanings will be attained." Also, here, magical powers, etc., are accomplished by the power of the mind of meditative concentration being workable, therefore it is called the leg of magical power. These are the four samadhis of aspiration, diligence, mind, and investigation. Thus, first, when the mind is gathered on a single object of focus and remains still, if conceptual thoughts arise, immediately gather the mind on the object of focus without letting it scatter, and repeatedly cultivate in this way. As the Sutra Ornament says, "Having fixed the mind on the object, do not let it constantly wander. Having quickly realized wandering, one should fix it on that again." Also, secondly, in the path of joining, there are basis and nature. The basis is two: the basis of the body is any of the five types of beings; the basis of the mind is any of the six meditation grounds. In nature, there are three: cause, result, and essence. The first is the Great Vehicle's path of accumulation. As the Madhyāntavibhāga says, "Generating what is in accordance with the part of liberation." Also, the result is the three paths of seeing, meditation, and no more learning. In essence, there are four: characteristic, basis, division, and special qualities. The characteristic is the completion of the Great Vehicle's path of accumulation, and ༼1༽the virtues that occurred before the path of seeing, belonging to the Great Vehicle, are all represented as the basis for the term Great Vehicle's path of joining to be valid. Whatever arises after the completion of the Great Vehicle's path of accumulation and belongs to the Great Vehicle is the cause for the first moment of the Great Vehicle's path of seeing to arise in the mindstream. The divisions are the four: heat, peak, forbearance, and supreme dharma. That is, in the two, heat and peak, one cultivates the five faculties, and in the two, forbearance and dharma, one cultivates the five powers. As the Madhyāntavibhāga says, "The faculties and the powers,

They are two and two in harmony. So it is said. The five faculties are: the faculty of faith, the faculty of diligence, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of samadhi, and the faculty of wisdom. How to meditate is as follows: Having generated the mind of enlightenment, one meditates with faith in the meaning of knowing all phenomena of samsara and nirvana as the two truths, such as the impermanence of the four truths. One rejoices with diligence, does not forget what is realized with mindfulness, focuses on one point with samadhi, and meditates with wisdom in the way of knowing the nature. This is also called "faculty" because it generates pure aspects. As it says in the same text: Having generated the part that is in accordance with liberation, one controls with desire and effort, does not forget the object, and also distinguishes without distraction. So it is said. The five powers are: the five powers such as the power of faith, and the way of meditation is the same as the faculties. This is also called power because it destroys the opposing forces. As it says in the Ornament of the Sutras: Because the opposing forces are weakened, they are called powers. So it is said. Thus, when meditating on the four parts of the path of joining, the nature of the wisdom of the time is the non-conceptual wisdom in the part of equipoise. The subsequent attainment after rising from that is either conceptual or non-conceptual, as appropriate. So, is it not a concept because it is said to be based on the four concepts? If having concepts becomes concepts, then the one with a hat will become a hat because he has a hat. Moreover, it is not said to rely on the four concepts. From the similar cause, the similar result follows. As it says in the commentary on the Praise of Names, the Drop of Ambrosia: Just as from the seed of the Kuta tree, the sprout of the Sala tree does not arise, similarly, from having concepts, non-concepts will not arise. Because it contradicts this. These reasons are explained in detail in my Precious Ladder, so please look there. The order of these wisdoms is also called the twelve decisive parts with the distinction of small, medium, and large. As it says in the Ornament of Realization: Thus, the decisive parts are small, medium, and large. So it is said. There are also four stages of these, and obtaining the warmth of appearance is seeing all phenomena as mere appearances of the mind, which is the worldly meditation-born.
