“The realm is completely filled.” “It surpasses that.” Thus it is said. For example, it is said: Any being who, for an instant, meditates on the mind of enlightenment, the accumulation of merit from that, even the Buddhas cannot enumerate. Thus it is said. The ultimate result is swiftly attaining Buddhahood. As it says in the Arrayed Tree: If you wish to swiftly awaken to unsurpassed enlightenment, you should generate the mind of unsurpassed enlightenment. As it says in the Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds: Like the supreme elixir, taking this impure body, transforming it into the body of a Buddha, because it is a priceless jewel, hold firmly to what is called the mind of enlightenment. Thus it is said. Moreover, if the mind is not generated, Buddhahood cannot be achieved, but if it is generated, the reason for achieving it is also explained in the Commentary on the Mind of Enlightenment: Without generating the mind of enlightenment, Buddhahood will never be attained, and in samsara, there is no other means to accomplish the benefit of oneself and others. Thus it is said. Secondly, the method of generating the mind after understanding has three parts. Preparation: Offerings are arranged before the Three Jewels, the disciple offers a mandala, and the teacher tames the mind with the benefits of generating the mind, etc. According to the Mind-Only school, the mind is generated after asking about obstacles and vowing to take vows, etc. However, here, according to the Madhyamaka school, prostrations are made, offerings are presented, sins are confessed, virtue is rejoiced in, the wheel of Dharma is requested to be turned, it is prayed that one will not pass into nirvana, and merit is dedicated to sentient beings, etc. The seven-branch offering is made in either an elaborate or concise form. The main part: May the Buddhas and Bhagavad-Buddhagatas residing in the ten directions, the great Vajra-holder Lamas, and the great Bodhisattvas residing on the great earth, please consider. Just as the Sugatas of the past generated the supreme mind of enlightenment, and the Bodhisattvas abide in all the trainings, in that order, so too, for the benefit of beings, I will generate the mind of enlightenment, and in that order, I will train in the trainings. This is recited three times. Conclusion: One should be delighted by proclaiming the benefits, as it says in the Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds: Today my life has borne fruit, I have well obtained the state of a human being, a good opportunity.

Today, I am born into the lineage of the Buddha, and now I have become a son of the Buddha. From now on, I must by all means engage in actions that befit the lineage. I will ensure that this immaculate lineage of monks remains untainted. Thus, and so on, it is said, and the methods of protection are also explained. Thirdly, the nature of what is to be protected, the precepts, has two aspects: the detailed classification of the precepts, and the manner in which they are to be protected. The first part has two aspects: The Mind-Only school considers there to be four root downfalls. The 'Twenty Verses on Discipline' states: The four root downfalls are considered to be like defeats. Being attached to gain and veneration, praising oneself and disparaging others, being miserly and not giving wealth or Dharma to those who are suffering and without protection, not listening to the confessions of others, striking others out of anger, abandoning the Great Vehicle, and teaching what appears to be similar to the true Dharma. Thus it is. The Middle Way school considers there to be nineteen or twenty. The 'Compendium of Trainings' states: There are five certainties for a king, five certainties for a minister, eight certainties for a commoner, and two or one common ones. The first is stealing the property of the Three Jewels, punishing monks who possess discipline, causing renunciates to withdraw from training, committing the five inexpiable sins, and holding wrong views. The second five are: destroying villages, regions, cities, towns, and territories. The third eight are: teaching emptiness to those whose minds are not trained, causing those who have entered the Great Vehicle to turn back, abandoning individual liberation and engaging in the Great Vehicle, holding and causing others to hold the vehicle of hearers and solitary realizers, praising oneself and disparaging others for the sake of veneration, saying that one can endure the profound, giving and receiving the property of the Three Jewels, and giving the wealth of tranquility to reciters. The common ones are abandoning aspirations, and adding abandoning entry on top of that, thus twenty are spoken of. Secondly, the manner in which they are to be protected. The 'Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life' states: For those who wish to protect their minds, mindfulness and awareness are needed. Even if life is at stake, protect them, I thus join my palms in supplication. Therefore, by not losing mindfulness and awareness, the black dharmas

In short, one should train in practicing the four white dharmas. The four black dharmas are: From the Ratnakuta Sutra: If a Bodhisattva possesses four dharmas, he will forget the mind of enlightenment. What are the four? Deceiving the lama and those worthy of offerings, creating regret for others where there is no cause for regret, speaking unpleasant words that are not praises to Bodhisattvas who have generated the mind of enlightenment, speaking verses composed of words that should not be spoken, and approaching others with deceit and trickery, not with a higher intention. The four white dharmas are also from the same source: O Surakshita, if a Bodhisattva possesses four dharmas, then in all lifetimes, as soon as he is born, the mind of enlightenment will manifest, and he will not forget it until he abides in the essence of enlightenment. What are the four? Not speaking false words for the sake of life, or even for the sake of laughter, abiding with a higher intention in the presence of all sentient beings without deceit or trickery, generating the perception of a teacher towards Bodhisattvas and speaking their true praises in the four directions, and because they do not desire the lesser vehicle, causing all sentient beings who are ripened to abide in the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment. Similarly, in the Arya Samadhiraja Sutra, it also says: Young one, if you possess four perceptions, the mind of enlightenment will become firm. What are the four? Generating the perception of a Buddha towards the true spiritual friend, generating the perception of the path towards the Dharma he teaches, generating the perception of fellow practitioners on the path towards those who practice it, and generating the perception of a single child towards all sentient beings. If one makes a mistake or violates a vow, one should confess the fault with regret and restore it by taking it again, as it says in the Twenty Vows: One should take the vows again. And so on, that is the meaning. In short, one should always abandon what should be abandoned day and night, accomplish what should be accomplished, and train in not being separated from the intention to become a Buddha for the sake of others. The detailed meaning of these should be understood from the Great Definitive Chariot. The method of generating the mind has been explained. Meaning
