As it is said. The ninth example is like gold in the mud of the earth: Just as the shape of the molten gold inside increases, the outside is the nature of the peaceful earth. Those who see it and understand it, just like removing the outer dirt in order to refine the inner gold. Those whose nature is clear and without stain will also suddenly appear. Like the source of jewels, beings are purified from defilements and attain supreme enlightenment. As it is said. Thus, due to the nine natures that obscure the essence, nine examples are given. Generally, this is an explanation of the examples that exist in the realm of sentient beings. In particular, for sentient beings who have not entered the path, the defilements that exist only in the continuum are the sole cause of samsara, namely meritorious and non-meritorious actions, desire, hatred, ignorance, and the four aspects of intense arising in which these three are equally mixed, are represented by the lotus, bee, husk, and mud, respectively. The nature of ignorance obscuring the essence, which exists in the continuum of the Arhats of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, is represented by the single example of the treasure of a poor man underground. The defilements of the Mahayana path of seeing to be abandoned that exist in the continuum of ordinary learners, and the two defilements of abandonment to be cultivated in the continuum of the noble ones, are represented by the outer skin and rotten clothes, respectively. The defilements of the ten grounds of the Bodhisattvas on the grounds are also represented by the defilements based on the impure seven grounds and below, and the defilements based on the pure three grounds, by the two examples of the womb and the gold in the mud, respectively. As it is said: The habits of intense arising such as desire, hatred, and ignorance, the defilements of seeing and cultivating to be abandoned, and those based on the impure and pure grounds, the nine types of defilements are represented by examples such as the lotus bud. The differences in the buds of near afflictions exceed hundreds of millions. These nine afflictions such as desire, in short, are correctly represented in order by the nine examples such as the lotus bud. These defilements cause children, Arhats, learners, and those with learning, to be impure in order by four, one, two, and two. As it is said. Second, to compare the Dharma, using nine examples to show faults, meaning the nine types of defilements.
