It is naturally luminous. The bodhisattvas who abide therein are born into the lineage of the Buddhas, the Bhagavad-Tathagatas of the past, future, and present. As stated in the Uttaratantra: 'The nature of mind is luminous, like the sky, it is immutable.' Therefore, the naturally pure dharmadhatu, the self-arisen wisdom of ultimate truth, is called the seed, element, or Tathagatagarbha when it is with defilements, and the nature of enlightenment or Tathagata when it is free from defilements. Establishing this has four aspects: the nature of the seed, the way it pervades all, and the reason for demonstrating the seed. First, as stated in the Uttaratantra: 'In this, there is nothing to be removed, nor is there anything to be placed. Look at reality as it is, and seeing reality, you are liberated.' Therefore, the essence of this dharmadhatu heart has no defilements to be removed from the beginning, because it is naturally luminous and without defilements. There are no new qualities to be attained from the outside, because the qualities are spontaneously accomplished. As it says in the same text: 'Because it possesses purity and defilements, and because it is completely free from defilements and pure.' Among them, the qualities of the stainless Buddha are: 'One, in the ground of completely defiled ordinary beings, the place where wisdom exists without differentiation, without distinction between the nature of phenomena before and after, is inconceivable,' as Asanga said in the commentary. 'Because of the undifferentiated dharma, because of the spontaneously accomplished, inconceivable.' That is to say, the nature of that meaning itself is the correct view. When one sees that meaning and is liberated from the suddenly arising defilements, like a fog dissipating, the previously existing qualities manifest, and although it is called enlightenment, it is not newly born. Therefore, in relation to the nature of the dharmadhatu or essence, it is empty of the characteristics of things with defilements and faults, but not empty of the qualities that are inherently present. As it says in the same text: 'Having the characteristic of differentiation, the element is empty of adventitious stains. Having the characteristic of non-differentiation, it is not empty of the unsurpassed dharma.'

In its commentary, it says: "What does this indicate? Because in the Tathagatagarbha, which is pure by nature, there is no reason to remove the afflictions of complete calculation, because it is the nature of being free from sudden defilements." "For this, there is not the slightest reason to establish purity, because the nature of pure Dharma, which is non-dual, is its own nature." Therefore, the essence of the Tathagata is devoid of the existence and non-existence of distinctions, and it should be known that it is empty of all coverings of afflictions, and the indivisible, inseparable, inconceivable Buddhadharma, exceeding the sands of the Ganges, is not empty." This is stated in the Sutra of the Precious Garland. Note: "Therefore, what is not there is empty, which is not seen correctly; what remains there is always there, which is known as it is. These two verses show the characteristic of non-inverted emptiness, because they are free from the extremes of addition and slander." So, how do the Dharma of Samsara and the Dharma of Nirvana exist for such a lineage? The Dharma of Samsara is like a cloud on the sun, which is the relationship between what can be obscured and what obscures; the Dharma of Nirvana is like a ray of light, which is the relationship of the same essence. For a while, in the Dharmadhatu, the dependent Dharma of Samsara is defiled, and when it is removed by the antidote, the way in which the Dharma of Nirvana manifests should be understood in this way. The Dharmas of Samsara are sudden, and the qualities are inherently uncreated, so: "Faults are connected with the sudden, Because the qualities are inherently possessed, How it was before, so it is later, It is the unchanging Dharma nature." It is said. Therefore, in the lineage of the Dharmadhatu, which is as immovable as the sky, for countless kalpas, the way of taking and abandoning the aggregates based on the karma and habits that flow in endless Samsara is: As it is said in the Sutra: "As in all worlds, In the sky, there is birth and death, Similarly, in the uncreated Dharmadhatu, The senses arise."
