Speech, the end of action, livelihood, diligence, mindfulness, and samadhi are the eightfold noble path. Likewise, the first dhyana, the second, the third, the fourth, the formless, the infinity of space, the infinity of consciousness, nothingness, the four realms of neither existence nor non-existence, and cessation, which are the nine successive abidings, are meditated upon. Sometimes, they are meditated upon by focusing on the general characteristics in order to attain what has not been attained. At other times, they are meditated upon in order to perfect what has been attained. In those realms, the taints to be abandoned are also of a co-emergent nature, which is the summary of ascertainment. Co-emergence is also present in individual children and even in animals and birds. If we divide this in terms of essence, there are four: desire, anger, pride, and ignorance. As the Treasury states: 'The four are to be abandoned by cultivation.' Thus it is. If we divide it in terms of realms, there are four in the desire realm, and three each in the two upper realms, making ten in total. If we divide it in terms of levels, there are four in the desire realm, four in the meditative states, and four in the formless realm. Combining three each in the eight, there are twenty-eight in total. Also. If we divide it in terms of levels and size, there are the desire realm, the four meditative states, and the four formless realms, making nine levels. In the nine levels, desire has three types, large, medium, and small, and each of the three types is further divided into three, making nine categories. Likewise, pride has nine categories, ignorance has nine categories, and anger in the desire realm has one nine-category, totaling two hundred and fifty-two. As the Treasury states: 'The four are to be abandoned by cultivation, except for anger itself, the form and formless are similar.' Thus it is. The way in which these cultivation-abandonments are abandoned is that they are abandoned simultaneously with the cessation of that level, which is to abandon them by means of cessation-transformation. As that very text states: 'When the mind of the non-learner arises, it is liberated from all obscurations. By the power of the path of cessation-transformation, those obscurations are completely abandoned.' Thus it is. It is said that with one path, one can gather and abandon the cultivation-abandonments of the three realms. It is said that the moment the smallest of the small of the path of cultivation ceases, it is done simultaneously with the cessation of the largest of the large of the abandonment of cultivation.

O! Gradually, in the nine grounds, there are nine to be abandoned through meditation, and those are abandoned gradually. Thus, after the completion of the path of meditation, the two wisdoms of the knowledge of exhaustion of fruits and the knowledge of non-arising are realized. That is, it is said in that very scripture: 'Exhaustion and non-arising are known, it is called enlightenment.' That is also to know suffering. To abandon the origin. To realize cessation. To rely on the path. Knowing the form of having done 'relying on the path' is the knowledge of exhaustion. That is, it is said in that very scripture: 'The knowledge of exhaustion is among all truths, complete knowledge and so on are certain.' Thus. Also, knowing that suffering has already been known, that there is nothing else to know, and so on, is the knowledge of non-arising. The so-called 'complete knowledge has nothing to do' and so on, is the meaning of the knowledge of non-arising. Thus. The one who possesses the two wisdoms is the Arhat, the two kinds of remainder and no remainder. The remainder is that because the aggregates of near taking have not been abandoned, there is a slight remainder of the truth of suffering, therefore the senses must be extremely guarded from objects. The basis of the remainder, with wisdom realizing selflessness, although the abandonments of the three realms have been abandoned, but because the adornments of miraculous powers and so on have not been obtained through meditation, therefore the Arhat has two kinds, without adornments and with adornments having obtained those. Furthermore, there are two kinds, namely abandonment and division from the perspective of the senses. The first is the Arhat's liberation from both divisions and liberation from the division of wisdom, in order, with the power of wisdom and samadhi, liberation from the obscurations of afflictions and the obscurations of equipoise of the three realms, and liberation from the obscurations of afflictions but not liberation from equipoise. The obscurations of afflictions are the three poisons and so on that cause all afflictions, and the obscurations of equipoise are agitation and sinking and so on that obstruct samadhi. That is also the obscuration of equipoise that obstructs the arising of the cause, the obscuration of the preliminary of samadhi, and the present that obstructs the abiding of the fruit (1) those who do not give the mind to abide in view. This has the same name as the Great Vehicle but different meanings. From the perspective of the senses, there are those who are subject to decline, those who harm themselves, and those who protect themselves.
