There are two ways to explain "earth" (Sanskrit: Pṛthivī, Romanized Sanskrit: prthivī, literal Chinese meaning: earth): first, to understand the way causes and effects are produced; second, to understand how "Pudgala" (Sanskrit: Pudgala, Romanized Sanskrit: pudgala, literal Chinese meaning: person) enjoys the "Pradhāna" (Sanskrit: Pradhāna, Romanized Sanskrit: pradhāna, literal Chinese meaning: primary matter). In the first case, Prakṛti (Sanskrit: Prakṛti, Romanized Sanskrit: prakṛti, literal Chinese meaning: nature) is only the cause, and Mahat (Sanskrit: Mahat, Romanized Sanskrit: mahat, literal Chinese meaning: great), Ahaṃkāra (Sanskrit: Ahaṃkāra, Romanized Sanskrit: ahaṃkāra, literal Chinese meaning: ego), and the five Tanmātras (Sanskrit: Tanmātra, Romanized Sanskrit: tanmātra, literal Chinese meaning: subtle elements) are the seven causes; the eleven Indriyas (Sanskrit: Indriyas, Romanized Sanskrit: indriyas, literal Chinese meaning: senses) and the five Mahābhūtas (Sanskrit: Mahābhūtas, Romanized Sanskrit: mahābhūtas, literal Chinese meaning: great elements) are considered only the sixteen effects; "Pudgala" is considered neither cause nor effect. Pradhāna is the agent, not the actor. The seven, such as Mahat, are both actors and actions. The sixteen are only actions. Pudgala is neither the actor nor the agent. Thus it is said. The law of production is that it arises from Prakṛti itself, so it is believed that the cause and effect are one entity. The mode of production is only to reveal what already exists, and it is not believed that it is a completely new creation that has never existed before. The way of destruction is only a temporary cessation or manifestation for a Kalpa (Sanskrit: kalpa, Romanized Sanskrit: kalpa, literal Chinese meaning: eon), and it is not believed that Prakṛti is completely destroyed and impermanent. The way Pudgala enjoys Pradhāna is that the unclear pleasure, etc., exists in the nature of Pradhāna, and the clear ones are three parts: the pleasure of external sounds, etc., the pleasure of the nature of consciousness, and the pleasure of the image of external objects that appear on it. It is wisdom that enjoys these, and the way of enjoying is that the image of external objects such as sounds appears on one side of the mirror of the "mind" facing outward, and the image of wisdom appears on the side facing inward, and the mixture of the two is considered the meaning of enjoyment. What appears in the mind is known by Pudgala. Just as milk, though without consciousness, is the cause of the growth of calves. Similarly, Pradhāna becomes the cause of the growth of Pudgala. Thus it is said. In order for Pudgala to enjoy, Pradhāna appears, and in order for the audience to be accomplished, it is like a dance performance. Thus it is said. The fault of not understanding such a principle is that the nature of Pradhāna and the temporary changes in form are clung to as the form of "self" (Sanskrit: ātman, Romanized Sanskrit: ātman, literal Chinese meaning: self), clung to as change, thus reversed, and wander in Saṃsāra (Sanskrit: Saṃsāra, Romanized Sanskrit: saṃsāra, literal Chinese meaning: cycle of existence). From the action of Prakṛti, merits arise, and due to the obscuration of darkness, a reversed mind arises, and the ignorant think that it is done by me. There is also no ability to make the channels work. Thus it is said.

This being is truly, The nature of pure discernment. Not knowing that nature as such, "The deluded constantly wander in samsara." So it is said. Those twenty-four aspects of the chief, appearing illusorily in conventional truth, are clung to as self and grasped as real, thus wandering in samsara. The nature of self, free from action and agent, constant, pervasive, and unwavering, is the ultimate truth. Knowing this and remaining unwavering in that state, one desires liberation. The benefit of knowing these truths is the attainment of liberation. Just knowing these twenty-five, whether with matted hair or a topknot, or abiding in any attire, in whatever pleasing place, liberation will occur; there is no doubt about this. So it is said. Secondly, the Ishvara school: The great god Ishvara spoke many tantras, from which came two disciples: the Foot-Eyed ones and the Grain-Eaters. Among them, a Rishi was entrusted to guard Uma, but lust arose, and fearing to fall from his asceticism, he gazed at Uma's foot and accomplished his own asceticism. Therefore, those who rely on the treatise called "The View of Intellect," composed by the one called Foot-Eyed, are called Intellectuals. Having performed asceticism by eating only the tips of grains, those who rely on the treatise called "Clarification of Distinctions," composed by the one called Grain-Eater, are called Distinctionists. These believe that all the happiness and suffering of beings, and all of samsara and liberation, are caused by Ishvara's displeasure or pleasure. Does this sentient being have awareness? I have no control over my own happiness and suffering. Sent by Ishvara, I will either fall into a precipice or go to the heavens. So it is said. They also believe that whatever is offered at the time of sacrifice is obtained in this life, and in the next life, they will be born in the heavens as my retinue. Brahmins desiring Brahmins, Kshatriyas desiring Kshatriyas, those desiring wealth should perform excellent offerings and sacrifices. So it is said. They also say that liberation is attained by burning one's own body as a sacrifice to please the gods. Those who uphold these doctrines are called Ishvaras, Owl-Offspring, and Six-Meaning-Holders. These believe that all philosophical tenets can be analyzed and summarized into six meanings through reason, thus relying on the side of reason.
