因此，应当百倍地努力。现在详细讲述痛苦的种类，首先是地狱中的热地狱之苦：地狱之处，痛苦不可估量。在复活地狱中，互相用武器刺杀，反复生死的痛苦无法忍受。八热地狱的第一个，在复活地狱中的众生，彼此视为仇敌般生起嗔恨时，手中自然生出各种武器，互相击打而死。从虚空中传来“愿复活”的声音，刚一复活，又用武器互相残杀。如《亲友书》中所说：“此间一日受三百短矛，猛烈击打之痛苦，尚不及地狱小苦之少分，亦难忍受，何况全部。” 接下来是比这痛苦七倍的地狱：黑绳地狱，用铁锯切割；众合地狱，在山间、石臼和地面上碾磨；嚎叫地狱，在燃烧的铁室中焚烧；大嚎叫地狱，在两层铁室中焚烧。用燃烧的铁锯在身上划出黑线后切割，以及粘附在上面的切割，是黑绳地狱。在山间、石臼和地面上，从空中降下燃烧的铁锤像碾磨糌粑一样碾磨，是众合地狱，之后再次复活。在没有门的铁室中被火焚烧，是嚎叫地狱。在两层铁室中焚烧，是大嚎叫地狱。比这些痛苦还要大七倍的是：在燃烧的炽热地面上，剥皮后用木桩支撑，极其炽热的内外被火焚烧，用熔化的铜水将身体烧成灰烬。炽热地狱，在燃烧的铁地上剥下身体的皮，用木桩支撑后用锤子敲打。极其炽热，从外到内，从上下四面八方被火焚烧，从内到外，肺和心脏被火焚烧，被十一堆火焰焚烧。此外，燃烧的铁锤和熔化的铜水不由自主地灌入口中，身体瞬间被烧成灰烬。所有这些之中，痛苦大七倍的是最下方的地狱。

Therefore, one should exert effort a hundredfold. Now, to explain the categories of suffering in detail, first, the suffering of the hot hells among the hells: In the hellish realms, suffering is immeasurable. In the Reviving Hell, they strike each other with weapons, and the suffering of repeated birth and death is unbearable. The first of the eight hot hells, those who dwell in the Reviving Hell, when hatred arises as if seeing each other as enemies, various weapons naturally appear in their hands, and they strike each other to death. As soon as the sound "May you be revived!" comes from the sky, they are revived as before, and again they kill each other with weapons. As it says in the Letter to a Friend: "Here, the suffering of being struck violently by three hundred short spears in a single day is not even a small fraction of the minor suffering of hell, and is unbearable, let alone the whole." Next is the hell that is seven times more painful than that: the Black Line Hell, where they are sawn with an iron saw; the Crushing Hell, where they are ground in the mountains, mortars, and on the ground; the Howling Hell, where they are burned in a burning iron chamber; the Great Howling Hell, where they are burned in a two-tiered iron chamber. Cutting with a burning iron saw after drawing black lines on the body, and the cutting that adheres to it, is the Black Line Hell. Grinding like grinding tsampa with burning iron hammers falling from the sky in the mountains, mortars, and on the ground is the Crushing Hell, and then they are revived again. Being burned in a doorless iron chamber is the Howling Hell. Being burned in a two-tiered iron chamber is the Great Howling Hell. Seven times greater than these sufferings is: on the burning hot ground, skinning and supporting with stakes, the extremely hot inside and outside are burned by fire, and the whole body is burned to ashes with molten copper. The Hot Hell, where the skin of the body is peeled off on the burning iron ground, supported with stakes, and then hammered. Extremely hot, from the outside to the inside, from above and below, in all directions, the fire burns, and from the inside to the outside, the lungs and heart are burned by fire, burned by eleven piles of fire. Furthermore, burning iron hammers and molten copper are involuntarily poured into the mouth, and the body is instantly burned to ashes. Among all these, the suffering that is seven times greater is the lowest hell.

The iron chamber of uninterrupted burning has no gaps. Beating and hacking, sawing and grinding into powder. Boiling and piercing, and wrapping with burning iron plates. There is no suffering greater than that, and no torment that can be done, therefore it is uninterrupted. Inside the burning iron chamber, the servants of Yama strike with hammers, hack with axes, saw with saws, grind in mortars, boil in large copper pots, pierce with spears and tridents, and wrap the body head to tail with burning iron rods like ropes, and so on, the suffering is immeasurable. The sixteen surrounding areas on the four outer sides of that place are: a swamp of rotting corpses and a river of immeasurable ash, a field of razor hairs and a forest of sword leaves, surrounded by Shalmali trees, where hell beings experience various sufferings. Around the Avici Hell, in the swamp of rotting corpses, filled with rotting corpses, former hell beings open the door and enter, where many worms with iron and copper beaks pierce and eat flesh and bones. From there, thinking they have escaped a hundred leagues, they go out, and in the river of immeasurable hot ashes, their flesh and bones are burned. As it is said in the Bodhicharyavatara: "The river of immeasurable ash is like a pit of fire, those who sink into it have all their flesh rot away, and their bones are like a heap of Kunda flowers." On both banks, servants of Yama seem to be guarding, so there is no escape. At the end of the hundred-league escape, when the foot is placed on the field of razor hairs, it is cut, and when lifted, it revives and walks again. In the forest of swords, the branches and leaves of the trees all turn into swords, cutting the body. Shalmali Mountain is an iron thorn pointing up and down, climbing and descending, where dogs and birds eat them. These each have four surrounding them in the four directions, so they are called the sixteen surrounding areas. In the intermediate kalpa, the memory of suffering is placed nearby, as it is said in the sutras. The temporary places and forms are not fixed, in the ocean, mountains, trees, and space, houses and rocky mountains, etc., they experience the suffering of becoming the forms of beings, and the suffering of using stones and trees, brooms and utensils, mats and ropes, etc. Not cutting off the root of life also refers to this. The lifespan of these hells is: the lifespan is revival.
