Herein lies the latter part of the commentary on the Great Vehicle's manual, the Treatise of the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Mine, called "The White Lotus." Now, extensively explaining the Buddhist teachings involves two aspects: distinguishing them from those of non-Buddhists and differentiating the unique teachings themselves. The first aspect further comprises five distinctions: the distinction in reliance or refuge, the distinction in the view of reality, the distinction in familiarization or meditation, the distinction in action or conduct, and the distinction in the fruit to be attained. First, the distinction in refuge: those who take refuge in the Three Jewels are Buddhists, while those who do not and instead take refuge in Brahma, Vishnu, and others are non-Buddhists. As Chandrakirti stated, "Those who have gone for refuge to the Buddha do not pay homage to other gods." Second, the distinction in view: Buddhists commonly accept the four seals of Dharma, and uniquely affirm the view that transcends extremes and is beyond conceptualization. Non-Buddhists, however, do not accept this and fall into the extremes of permanence and annihilation. As stated in the Ratnakuta Sutra, "Those who enter the Buddha's teachings with faith see all conditioned things as impermanent and deceptive. To abandon suffering, they diligently practice the selfless, peaceful Dharma, which is like the sky." The four seals are: all conditioned things are impermanent, all phenomena are selfless, all contaminated things are suffering, and nirvana is peace. In terms of meditation, Buddhists aim for liberation and take refuge in the Three Jewels. They commonly meditate on the meaning of selflessness through the stages of the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment. Uniquely, they realize that all phenomena are of the nature of the sky and meditate with emptiness and compassion as their essence. Non-Buddhists, however, do not meditate in this way. They merely suppress mental activity or hold the mind in a state of bliss, clarity, and non-thought, clinging to a one-sided perspective. As stated in "Eliminating Wrong Views," "Those who strive with wisdom, bodhicitta, compassion, and the non-conceptual emptiness as it is, are yogis of selflessness. The opposite is said to be the side of others." In terms of conduct, Buddhists consider attachment, hatred, and ignorance, clinging to objects, and harming others as obstacles to the path. Non-Buddhists do not consider these as obstacles and engage in the opposite conduct. As stated in the "Seventy Verses on Refuge," "Having gone for refuge to the sacred Dharma, one is free from the mind of harming and hurting." In terms of the fruit, Buddhists directly attain any of the three liberations through that very path.

It is the inner path, and those who do not attain it are the outer path. As it is said in the Mother Sutra: "The Prajñāpāramitā is 'to abide for the sake of all sentient beings to be liberated from suffering, even those who wish to attain nirvana in the Śrāvakabhūmi should study the Prajñāpāramitā. Those who wish to attain complete nirvana in the Pratyekabuddhabhūmi and the Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbuddhabhūmi should also study the Prajñāpāramitā.'" And so on. Other wandering non-Buddhists have neither the path nor the realization of the path. Thus it is proclaimed. Secondly, the excellent treatises themselves are broadly divided into two. Briefly stated: The treatises of the victors that follow the sacred path of liberation, those who uphold them are also of two kinds, namely, the Lesser Vehicle and the Unsurpassed Vehicle. Inner Buddhists are those who proclaim the Buddha and uphold the Three Piṭakas as treatises. Although it can be divided into three vehicles by the unerring path to liberation, it is temporarily divided into the Lesser Vehicle and the Greater Vehicle. Among them, firstly, as the gateway to entering the teachings, and as the general principle for adopting and abandoning actions, and because it is the order of entry for beginners and those with dull faculties, the classification of each is explained in detail. Firstly, the teaching is: The Lesser Vehicle also has two levels of faculties, namely, the Śrāvakas and the Pratyekabuddhas. They make their own peace the main goal of their ultimate pursuit. Even if they benefit others, they think of it as a virtue for accomplishing their own benefit, so they are narrow-minded. Because they do not have great actions and aspirations for the sake of others, they have entered the lower level of skillful means. As it is said in the Ratnāvalī: "In the Śrāvakayāna, the aspiration and conduct of the Bodhisattva and the dedication are not explained, how can it become the Mahāyāna?" Thus it is said. In terms of view, because they have not realized the nature of phenomena that is empty of all self, therefore, the edge of their own view is that they only consider the self of a person and the object to be without inherent existence as pure liberation, and thus they enter the path of meditation. As it is said in the Abhisamayālaṅkāra: "In order to eliminate the concept of the object, and because the grasping is not abandoned, it should be known that the path that relies on it, like a rhinoceros horn, is truly concise." Thus it is said. Thus, the treatises are only of the lower vehicle.
