Thus it is said, there are no other dharmas apart from dependent arising. Therefore, there are no other dharmas apart from emptiness. Thus it is said. The view that karma is the cause is refuted. Killing and stealing are also the same; examining whether the object encounters when divided into the three times of past, present, and future, and dividing into prior and subsequent moments, just as the act of stealing ceases at the time of stealing, and the object cannot be established, it is the same for all things. Therefore, the falsely appearing karma is like a dream, and is without inherent existence. The Root Wisdom Treatise says: If there is inherent existence, what will arise? Therefore, for the harmer of emptiness, arising does not exist. Thus it is said. Cessation is also, because the arising of suffering is prevented, the cessation of those two, which is cessation, is also prevented. If there is no object to be prevented, there is no cessation, just as medicine is not needed when there is no disease. That very treatise says: If suffering inherently exists, cessation is not reasonable. Thus it is said. Refuting the path: When cultivating the path as an antidote to afflictions, is it cultivated simultaneously with afflictions or at different times? If simultaneously, the object to be abandoned and the antidote are contradictory substances in the same continuum. If at different times, it cannot be the harmed and the harmer, just like using this year's medicine for last year's disease. That path also does not go forward, because the act of going itself has been divided into three times and prevented. It cannot be a path, because whatever is used to walk, the walker and the path, simultaneously, differently, permanent, and impermanent, are all prevented. The Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds says: For a consciousness without a body, encountering is not reasonable. Thus it is said. The Root Wisdom Treatise says: When a lamp is being produced, it does not encounter darkness. Just as when a lamp is being produced, it dispels darkness. Even without the lamp encountering, if it dispels darkness, then all the darkness that exists in the world will be dispelled by the lamp that exists here. Thus it is said. The path and its object to be abandoned, do not encounter in prior and subsequent moments, therefore it is not established. It is not possible to realize cessation, because cessation itself has been prevented, therefore realization is also prevented. That is to say, if the object to be abandoned has passed, there is no need for cessation; if it has not ceased, it cannot be prevented; and if the two are simultaneous, the essence is contradictory, because they are different entities, it is not possible. If they are not simultaneous, they cannot be the object to be abandoned and the agent of abandonment, because it is simply not established. The accumulation path and so on are also cultivated.

If that very wisdom is the path of accumulation and so on, then the object of meditation and the meditator cannot be different entities. If it is other, then the wisdom that is not that cannot be the path of that, therefore meditation will become meaningless. Therefore, all four truths are not established. As it says in the Lankavatara Sutra: 'Non-arising is the one truth, but children speak of four truths. Having sat at the Bodhi tree, even one truth was not seen, how could there be four?' And as it says in the Mother Sutra: 'Even the noble truths are without essence.' Refuting the agent of ultimate truth has two parts: refuting the corporeal and refuting the temporal. The first is: among the five examinations of those atoms, are they touching or not touching? If a gross object is created, are the atoms touching each other or not touching? The Tirthika Vaisheshika asserts that they are touching. The Hearer Vaibhashika asserts that they are with intervals. The Sautrantika asserts that they are adhering but not touching. If they are touching, then when the central atom touches the atoms of the six directions, does it touch with six face-parts, or does it touch with the very face that touches the east and so on? If it touches with six faces, then the central atom itself would become six parts, because there are six faces that touch. If it is said that it adheres to all six directions such as the east, then the atom of the six faces itself would only be in the direction of the east, because it adheres to the east face, just like the atom itself. If it is said that it does not adhere, then is the interval cut off by the atoms of light and darkness or not cut off? It is not permissible to not cut off, because the interval of the corporeal is only either grayish or blackish. If it is cut off, then does it adhere to the atoms of light and darkness or not adhere? If it adheres, then it cannot but adhere with six directions or one direction. If it does not adhere, then there will also be an interval there, therefore, whether light and darkness enter or do not enter that interval, there are only these two possibilities. If it is said that it never adheres, then even an elephant would fit inside a single mustard seed, because the interval has no end. Furthermore, if it does not adhere, then because there is an interval, cutting the body with a weapon, destroying a city with a cannon, supporting a beam with a pillar, and the sound coming from a drum would also be interrupted. Therefore, although it appears to create a gross object, it is not the case that there is touching or not touching, like a mountain in a dream. The Twentieth Verse says: 'When the six parts are combined, the subtle atom'
