Generate faith by contemplating the kindness of the Lama, generate faith by contemplating the pure vision of Dharma friends, generate faith by contemplating the qualities of the Buddha. Regard everything other than oneself as rare and precious, regretting even a moment's decrease. Cultivate faith without high or low, partiality, and cherish taming one's own mind. As it says in the 'Friendly Letter': 'Having abandoned pride, what need is there to pray much? Tame your own mind, O Blessed One! The mind is said to be the root of Dharma.' And so on. Abandon some dissimilar, misguided faiths, and the advice for being able to endure is: Knowing the pitfalls of faith and abandoning them, there is no other way than to generate faith in the holy ones. Some faiths increase or decrease due to slight causes. When bad causes are removed, there is no faith at all. Having many thoughts, engaging in anything, one cannot endure. Being uncertain, acting as one pleases. Without reliance, reckless, swayed by small causes. Abandon these six and entrust trust for a long time. Therefore, even if it is faith, there are six that have not become true faith, so they should be abandoned. With a heart free from deceit, constantly generate respectful faith. What are these six? For example, some beginners, when associating with the Lama, act as if they have great faith, but after leaving, they are worse than ordinary people, so they should be abandoned. Some people's faith arises quickly when encountering favorable conditions, but it vanishes in an instant, so that should also be abandoned. Some people practice the Dharma they like, and before the harm from spirits and diseases is resolved, they seem to have great faith, but once they are healed or their wishes are fulfilled, they immediately abandon it, and that should also be abandoned. Some people engage in multiple virtuous activities at the same time, but none of them are completed, and that should also be abandoned. Some people do not have unwavering faith in one profound Dharma and one root Lama, and they act as they please, and that should also be abandoned. Some people's faith arises from a small cause, but it is weakened by another small cause, and this sudden wavering should also be abandoned. First, after thorough examination, once Dharma and the Lama have been accepted, then one should treat them with faith and respect that does not generate weariness or increase and decrease. How to make faith firm? First, thoroughly examine the objects of faith, and then be as immovable as Mount Meru, without increase or decrease like the sun, sky, and ocean,

Like an unbroken bowstring, like a bridge without weariness, like a great river without interruption, like a supple silk thread, steadfast like the sky, not stolen by circumstances. Noble individuals first seek a lama and Dharma by first examining and analyzing. Having found it, unwavering faith is like the king of mountains, faith without increase or decrease is like the sun, faith without duplicity is like the ocean, faith without regret is like a mother, faith without end is like the sky, unwavering faith is like a drawn bowstring, faith that is not stolen by others or by scolding and other circumstances is like the sky, faith without weariness is like a bridge, faith without interruption is like a river, faith adorned with reverence, suppleness, and humility is like a silk thread. One should rely on it because it has these ten qualities. From the Ornament of the Trunk: Son of good family, you should attend to the virtuous friend with reverence and faith like the ocean. I will accomplish it according to the command. May I myself quickly become the guide of all sentient beings in the same way. Thus, generate the mind. The benefits of relying on and generating faith in this way are: The benefits of faith are immeasurable, it is the basis of all white dharmas, it eliminates suffering, it is a guide to the path of enlightenment, it is contemplated by the holy ones, and it possesses perfect qualities. Therefore, virtuous people with noble qualities should diligently increase the hundredfold petals of faith. To summarize the immeasurable qualities of faith: it is the basis of all white dharmas, it eliminates all the sufferings of samsara, it grasps the path of liberation, it becomes a vessel for profound Dharma, (1) it is always contemplated by Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, it possesses qualities such as knowing shame, being conscientious, and possessing wisdom, it is born in pure Buddha-fields, and in all lifetimes, one will meet noble lamas, noble Dharma, and noble friends as soon as one is born, and one will practice Dharma, be protected by gods who delight in white Dharma, and sleep peacefully.

Going to, and even in dreams, dreaming of good omens of practicing the Guru, the Three Jewels, and the Dharma, waking up feeling happy, all thoughts being fulfilled, living a life of ease, with the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas guiding the path to happiness, eliminating all fears of the Bardo, being born in the place one aspires to, inheriting the lineage of the Three Jewels, and quickly attaining the state of Buddhahood. To elaborate, even if speaking for countless eons, it cannot be exhausted. Thus, in the Sutra of the Noble Jewel Lamp, it is said: Whoever, with beings as numerous as the dust of ten directions' lands, serves and honors with all happiness for an eon, what is the merit of having faith in this Dharma? This superior quality is not present in that. Thus it is said. In the Vinaya Pitaka, it is said: Bhikshus, things are extremely difficult to obtain, with faith, rely on a virtuous friend, rely on a compliant friend, always abandon bad friends, seek the holy Dharma, contemplate its meaning, protect the precepts like a precious jewel, strive diligently to generate Bodhicitta, and soon you will attain the wisdom of the Buddha. Thus it is. Therefore, the six kinds of faith mentioned earlier, focusing on the six objects and striving a hundredfold, that is, focusing on the ten virtuous deeds and the ten Paramitas, as well as the Gurus of the ten directions and the Three Jewels and the assembly of sentient beings, thereby expanding the petals of faith, may you uphold the teachings well. From the Treatise on the Great Vehicle's Instructions, The Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Treasury, the Extensive Commentary on the Fifteenth Chapter, The Nature of Faith and Contemplation. Thus, after explaining faith, immediately following, among the types of Dharma that those with faith should contemplate, because it is the law of karma, it is discussed here. Therefore, those with faith should contemplate: cause and effect, karma, good and bad should be taken and abandoned. That is to say, the cause of happiness and suffering are the two, virtuous and non-virtuous karma, therefore here, those who desire liberation should take and abandon. In the Pratimoksha Sutra, it says: Do not commit any evil deeds, practice perfect virtue, subdue one's own mind, this is the teaching of the Buddhas. As it is said. Then, what is virtue?
